Recruitment Picking Up for Elite Mississippi Lineman With Summer Visits Set

In this story:
It has been a busy spring for Oak Grove offensive tackle DJ Dotson, and not just in the weight room.
The 2027 three‑star prospect has been juggling offseason development with a steady run of visits, offers and conversations as his recruitment picks up speed.
Dotson is coming off a strong junior season, but he hasn’t slowed down since it ended. He wants to round out his game and has been intentional about what that looks like.
“Offseason has been going pretty good so far,” Dotson said to Maroon and White Daily. “I’m just trying to get stronger in the weight room. Then I am working on my speed training. I also want to get better at my pass sets and the run game, too.”

At 6‑foot‑7 and 320 pounds, Dotson already has the frame college staffs covet. He’s rated as the No. 60 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 20 prospect in Mississippi, and his offer list reflects that. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Miami are among the programs involved, and the interest has only grown this spring.
He has already been on the road for several unofficial visits and has his summer schedule locked in.
“I have four official visits set for right now,” Dotson said. “I have Georgia in late May and then I have Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Mississippi State in June. Those are the only ones I have planned right now and I don’t plan to add any more.”
Georgia and Georgia Tech have been the most aggressive so far, but they’re not alone.
“Georgia and Georgia Tech are on me pretty hard,” Dotson said. “Those are the main two that are on me hard. Miami also offered recently and I’ve been talking to them a good bit. It’s also been good with Mississippi State and I still hear from them a lot. Lately I’ve been to see Georgia Tech and I will get to some other places soon this spring.”
Mississippi State has been a steady presence in his recruitment. Dotson has visited Starkville multiple times, including game days, and the message from head coach Jeff Lebby and offensive line coach Phil Loadholt has been consistent.
“It’s going well with Coach Loadholt and Coach Lebby,” Dotson said. “They want me there. They told me I don’t have to leave the state to be successful. They said Mississippi State can give me what other schools are not offering.”

Dotson plans to make his decision before his senior season begins, and he already has a clear idea of what matters most.
“I want to make my final decision around July or August,” he said. “I want to look at my relationships and which one can develop me to the best of my ability. It would be amazing to stay close to home and I don’t want to go too far from home. Those four I am officially visiting are my main favorites right now.”
With four official visits lined up and steady contact from several Power Four programs, Dotson’s recruitment is shaping up to be one of the more important in Mississippi for the 2027 class. The next few months will tell the story.
