Notebook, Observations of Mizzou's Fall Camp Practice 8/12

Yes, that's who you think it is in the article cover. Mizzou running back Ahmad Hardy was at fall camp practice Wednesday watching his teammates at work.

Hardy, wearing a sleeve on his left leg, did not participate in drills, but did jog off the field as the media was exiting. He hasn't been a participant during fall camp practices, as the star tailback is still recovering from the gunshot wound to his left leg suffered May 10.

The last update from Eli Drinkwitz gave on Hardy's return status was Aug. 2.

"He will not be a participant in practice this week, but he will be a participant in rehab and walkthroughs as we continue just to get him acclimated back to what it would take to play football," Drinkwitz said. "Should not have really an adjustment on that. I think maybe in two weeks there may be another update on where everything is at, but yeah, it's really the same.”

Fellow tailback Jamal Roberts has previously stated that Hardy has been in the building and alongside his teammates throughout summer.

While Hardy was spotted near his teammates, transfer defensive lineman Donta Simpson was not on the field — or at least, not near his fellow defensive linemen participating in drills — according to my observations. Simpson, a sophomore, transferred to Missouri after spending his 2025 freshman season at Miami. This is not the first practice in which Simpson did not participate in drills.

Kicking

Blake Craig made all four of his kicks, starting at the 10-yard line, moving out to the 23, then 29 and finally 32. Craig claims said his power is back to "full strength" after tearing the ACL in his plant-leg in Week 1 of the 2025 season.

Brunno Reus then hit kicks from the 10- and 23-yard lines. Oliver Robbins drilled a 29-yarder shortly after.

Scouts

NFL scouts from the Minnesota Vikins, Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins could be seen on the sidelines. It appeared that an additional two scouts were alongside them, but it was difficult to make out which organizations they may be with, if they were even scouts.

Pittsburgh picked up former Missouri safety Daylan Carnell after the 2026 NFL Draft, but released him in June. The Vikins drafted former Missouri corner Akayleb Evans in 2022, although Evans is now with the Carolina Panthers. The Miami Dolphins selected former Missouri wideout Kevin Coleman Jr. with the No. 177 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
