Notre Dame Lands Northwestern Transfer Julian Roper II

In this story:
Notre Dame head basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry has his work cut out for him as he looks to rebuild the Fighting Irish roster. He took a step towards that today by landing Northwestern transfer guard Julian Roper II.
Roper comes to Notre Dame with two seasons of eligibility remaining after playing 59 games for the Wildcats over the last two seasons. The Detroit native played only 15 games this season after injuring his ankle in early February.

Roper was ranked as a four-star recruit by ESPN coming out of St. Mary's High School, and Rivals ranked him as the nation's No. 141 overall player. He scored 4.0 points and grabbed 3.4 rebounds per game as a true freshman in 2021-22. This past season he averaged 4.4 points and 3.7 rebounds prior to his injury, which he suffered against Michigan.
Roper scored a career-high 12 points in a December victory over Illinois-Chicago. He shot 45.3-percent from the field and 45.3-percent from three-point range this past season, although he took just 19 shots from deep.
The 6-3 guard earned offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Alabama, DePaul, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio State and Toledo coming out of high school.
Shrewsberry's first pickup was his son Braeden Shrewsberry, a 6-2 guard that was previously committed to Penn State. The Irish have two players in the 2023 class with Shrewsberry and Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn star guard Markus Burton. Expect this to be the first of several transfer and high school pickups for Shrewsberry this offseason as he looks to completely rebuild the depth chart, which took another hit today when forward Ven-Allen Lubin announced his decision to transfer.
