Notre Dame women’s basketball is set to host NCAA Tournament games for the first time in four years. The Fighting Irish are one of 36 teams to receive an at-large NCAA Tournament bid and will be the No. 3 seed in the “Greenville 1” Regional pod.

The Fighting Irish will play WAC Tournament champion No. 14 seed Southern Utah (23-8) in their first round game on Friday, March 17 at a time to be announced. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 6 seed Creighton, an at-large team from the Big East, vs the winner of the No. 11 seed play-in game between Illinois and Mississippi State. That play-in game will take place this Wednesday.

If Notre Dame wins both games this weekend to advance to a second consecutive Sweet 16, it would advance to Greenville, SC to play the winner of the College Park, MD pod, which is hosted by Maryland. The Fighting Irish lost 74-72 to the Terrapins on Dec. 1 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on a last second buzzer beater.

The tournament’s No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, defending national champion South Carolina (32-0), is the No. 1 seed in the Greenville 1 Region. The Gamecocks have won 50 consecutive games heading into the tournament. They will play No. 16 seed Norfolk State in their first round game in Columbia, SC. The winner of that game plays the winner of No. 8 South Florida vs No. 9 Marquette. The Golden Eagles are led by Notre Dame alum Megan Duffy.

The winner of South Carolina’s Columbia, SC first and second round games matches up with the Los Angeles pod in the Sweet 16. No. 4 seed UCLA is the host there and plays No. 13 Sacramento State in the first round. The winner of that game plays the winner of No. 5 Oklahoma vs No. 12 Portland in the second round.
