Notre Dame Women's Basketball Falls Out Of AP Top 10 For First Time This Season

In this story:
Notre Dame women’s basketball has fallen out of the top 10 in Associated Press weekly poll for the first time this season. The Fighting Irish (25-5) fell one spot to No. 11 this week after Saturday’s loss to Louisville in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
The Irish had held at No. 10 for four consecutive weeks and had won seven consecutive games, including two wins over Louisville, prior to Saturday’s loss. Notre Dame was one of six top 10 weeks in last week’s poll to lose a game before advancing to the championship game of a conference tournament last week.
Previous No. 3 Utah lost to Pac-12 Tournament No. 7 seed and eventual tournament champion Washington State in the quarterfinals of its conference tournament. The Utes fell five spots to No. 7 as a result. Stanford (28-5) lost to UCLA in the Pac-12 semis and moved up one spot to No. 5 this week.
Last week’s No. 4, LSU, also fell five spots to No. 9 after losing to SEC Tournament No. 3 seed Tennessee in the tournament semifinals. Maryland lost to eventual Big Ten tournament champion Iowa in the semifinals and slipped from No. 5 last week to No. 6 this week, while Indiana lost to Big Ten runner-up Ohio State in the tournament semifinals and falls just one spot to No. 3.
South Carolina (32-0) remains No. 1 in the AP poll for the 37th consecutive week after going 3-0 enroute to winning the SEC Tournament. The Gamecocks now have the second longest run of all-time at the top of the poll.
Iowa (26-6) is up five spots to become the new No. 2 team in the poll after beating Maryland and Ohio State in the semifinals and championship game, respectively, of the Big Ten Tournament.
Virginia Tech (27-4) is up four spots to No. 4 after beating Duke in the ACC semifinals and then Louisville in Sunday’s championship game. The No. 4 ranking is the best in Hokies history.
UConn (28-5) is up two spots to No. 7 after beating unranked Georgetown and Marquette to advance to Monday night’s Big East championship game. The Huskies face new No. 10 Villanova, which beat unranked opponents Creighton and DePaul in its first two Big East Tournament games to advance to the final.
Duke (25-6) remains No. 13 this week after losing 58-37 to Virginia Tech in the ACC semifinals. North Carolina (21-10) fell to Duke in the ACC quarterfinals and is down a spot to No. 19 this week.
