Notre Dame Women's Basketball Inks Five-Star Kate Koval To 2024 Signing Class
Notre Dame women’s basketball has signed a one-player 2024 recruiting class, but while the class lacks quantity it comes with a lot of quality. The Irish announced on Tuesday that 5-star Kateryna "Kate" Koval has inked her national letter of intent to play for the Fighting Irish. Koval is a 6-5 post player who ranks as the No. 5 overall player and the No. 1 post player in the 2024 class per the ESPN HoopGurlz Rankings.
"I am thrilled to welcome Kate Koval to our Notre Dame family," Fighting Irish head coach Niele Ivey said in a release. "Kate is a force from the center position and is one of the most efficient centers in her class.”
Koval is a native of Ukraine but has attended Long Island Lutheran High School for the last two years. She averaged 15.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game while hitting 60.7% of her shots from the field as a junior.
"She's skilled, versatile and extremely competitive,” Ivey said of Koval. “Kate has the ability to dominate on the block but also step out and shoot from the perimeter. Her excellent passing and very high IQ and motor will complement our style of play and identity perfectly. The impact she will make on our program will be immediate and massive."
Koval was the 2022-23 Gatorade New York Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Six current Fighting Irish players were named Gatorade Player of the Year in their state prior to signing with Notre Dame.
