Notre Dame Bowl Projections Remain Consistent After Bye

Notre Dame was off this weekend, but despite the bye week the Irish saw their rankings jump in both the AP and Coaches Poll. While the ranking changed after a number of upsets, the bowl projections remained consistent.

There is still one bowl and one opponent that dominates the latest projections. Of course, that bowl projection is for Notre Dame to square off against LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Bill Bender of Sporting News, Mark Schlabach of ESPN and Athlon Sports all have the Irish slated to play LSU.

That matchup would certainly be one of the more intriguing and talked about non-playoff bowl games. Notre Dame and LSU have met in bowl games before, but this one would be quite different, as the Tigers are led by former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

Notre Dame and LSU are both 7-3 with what should be easily winnable games in the final two weeks. Notre Dame finishes with a home game against Wake Forest (4-6) and a road contest at Stanford (3-7). LSU squares off against Georgia State (6-4) and Texas A&M (6-4 at home.

Notre Dame and LSU have faced each other 12 times, with the Irish holding a 7-5 lead. Notre Dame beat LSU 21-17 in the Citrus Bowl following the 2017 season, and 31-28 in the Music City Bowl following the 2014 campaign.

The ReliaQuest Bowl was previously named the Outback Bowl.

Kyle Bonagura of ESPN and Jerry Palm of CBS Sports both project Notre Dame to the Pop Tarts Bowl. Bonagura has the Irish slated to take on Kansas State while CBS has the Irish projected to take on Oklahoma State.

The College Football Network has Notre Dame projected to play Oregon State in the Holiday Bowl.
