Notre Dame Extends Scholarship Offer to Tennessee Star with Incredible Name

While Notre Dame has pretty much put a bow on recruiting for the 2027 cycle outside of a few potential late flip candidates, its focus has largely shifted to 2028.

While plenty of offers for the 2028 class have already gone out, none have gone to a player with a more unique name than the Tennessee high school star that picked up an offer from the Fighting Irish on Tuesday.

Antwaun "Cornball" Adams of Chattanooga (Baylor School), Tennessee, picked up a scholarship offer from Notre Dame on Tuesday, as he nears 20 scholarship offers to his name.

Cornball Adams as a Recruiting Prospect

Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are among the 17 total teams to have extended Adams a scholarship offer to date.

The 2028 prospect is rated as a four-star safety out of Tennessee and as the 110th overall player in the cycle according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also rates as the 10th overall safety and fourth-best player from Tennessee in according to the same outlet.

Adams recorded 25 tackles as a sophomore in 2025, while intercepting three passes, and returning two of those for touchdowns. Although not being recruited as an offensive player, Adams hauled in 25 receptions for 466 yards and six touchdowns as well.

Notre Dame's Early Start to 2028 Recruiting Class

Notre Dame is off to a solid start in the 2028 recruiting class, with three commitments already.

Darieon Prescott of Bolingbrook, Illinois is rated as one of the nation's top edge rushers while safety Andre Jones (brother of 2027 commitment Julius Jones Jr. and son of former Notre Dame great) and kicker Owen Davies of Tennessee are already in the class.

The class hasn't come with a decent amount of drama already as Notre Dame is playing from behind a bit at quarterback. The Fighting Irish thought they had the commitment of New Jersey product Trey Tagliaferri, only to see him flip that commitment to Oklahoma days later in early July.

After pulling off a recruiting haul in the 2026 cycle, the question was if Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame could double it up by landing a second-straight top-five class. The Irish appear headed there in 2027, as the class is virtually complete and currently sits at No. 2.

A third-straight top-five class would serve as a foundation of just what kind of power Notre Dame is turning into on an annual basis, but there will be a lot of work to get to that point - just like there was at this time a year ago with the '27 group.
