Coaching Changes Have Created A Major Opportunity For Notre Dame

In this story:
This has been one of the wildest offseasons that I've ever seen, and all of the changes and moves have opened up a window for Notre Dame. Legendary head coach Nick Saban has retired from Alabama, Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan for the NFL, and the Big Ten and SEC are going to look very, very different next season.
These changes have created a void in the college football world. The king of the game has retired, the current championship coach is gone, and programs like Notre Dame have an opportunity to fill that void. That was the topic of today's Irish Breakdown Podcast.
With Saban and Harbaugh gone, two of the best coaches in the game have moved on. Alabama made an excellent hire replacing Saban, but as good as Kalen DeBoer is, he's not Saban, who was the greatest coach of this generation. Michigan is likely going to replace Harbaugh with Sherrone Moore. While Moore has proven himself to be one of the top young coaches in the game, he's not Harbaugh.
For Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman, the coaching changes should open up an opportunity for the program to make a leap. Alabama is the only team that Notre Dame played over the last 15 years that dominated them. Yes, Notre Dame is 0-2 against Georgia, 0-3 against Ohio State and 2-4 against Clemson, but the Irish have had competitive games with each of those teams. Alabama dominated Notre Dame in both contests.
There are also recruiting opportunities that open up with Saban leaving Alabama.
The arrival of Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC, and USC, Oregon, Washington and UCLA joining the Big Ten, those conferences will be far more competitive moving forward. It's yet another reason that Notre Dame is entering a period where the opportunity to make a leap as a program, and make a run for a title is increased.
Of course, Notre Dame isn't the only program that is being presented with this opportunity. Georgia will look to become the new Alabama, and Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Florida State are just some of the program that also have an opportunity to take advantage of the shifting landscape.
The second part of today's show focused on the areas where Notre Dame must continue to improve, and prove itself if it's going to take advantage of this window. Recruiting improvements beyond what we've already seen, better personnel development and winning the big games are areas where we focus our discussion.
