Notre Dame received a big commitment from former Ohio State defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste last offseason, giving them a pass rusher who was productive in limited opportunities. Jean-Baptiste exceeded all expectations, becoming a focal point for the Irish. At times, he was arguably the team’s best defensive lineman in 2023.

It was a big combine week for Jean-Baptiste, who had a less than impressive week at the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. He really needed to test well, which he did for the most part. Here is how he did on Thursday.

WEIGH-IN RESULTS

After playing between 255 to 260 pounds with the Irish, Jean-Baptiste weighed in at just 239 pounds in Indianapolis. That was a weight that was down due to food poisoning he suffered over the last couple of days. Otherwise, his weigh-in exceeded expectations. Jean-Baptiste even had longer arms and wingspan than what he measured in the spring.

Here are Jean-Baptiste’s measurements from this week.

Height: 6-4 ⅝”
Weight: 239
Arm: 33 ¾”
Hand: 10”
Wingspan: 80 ½”

ATHLETIC TESTING

Heading into the event, there were some questions about just how athletic Jean-Baptiste is. There were concerns over just what his upside might be.

Jean-Baptiste put together a tremendous overall athletic performance, including his stellar board bump. Here is how he tested overall. He did not participate in the short shuttle or three-cone, instead waiting for the Notre Dame Pro Day on March 21st.

40-Yard Dash: 4.66 seconds
Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Broad Jump: 10 feet, 7 inches

POSITIONAL DRILLS

In the drills Jean-Baptiste also surprised many, turning in an impressive performance. His best drill came when he ran the hoop drill, showing good flexibility in his hips and ankles. It wasn’t an area that people expected him to look overly smooth, which was incredible to watch. Whether it was any variation of the bag drills, Jean-Baptiste looked smooth throughout.
