The Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings continue to come out, and Notre Dame continues be consistently ranked in the Top 10. The latest ranking came from On3 Sports, and the Fighting Irish ranked 7th in their preseason ranking.

This is an updated Top 25 from On3, one that reflects all the coaching changes and player movement, including the recent decision by Chip Kelly to leave UCLA and become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Here is what On3 had to say about Notre Dame:

"Marcus Freeman has the Irish poised for a Year 3 leap and contention for a playoff spot next fall. Notre Dame has plugged holes on the roster using the portal, adding the likes of Duke quarterback Riley Leonard, Clemson wideout Beaux Collins and impact defensive players like Arizona safety Jordan Clark and Northwestern corner Rod Heard. Freeman also swiped Mike Denbrock away from LSU as his new OC — an upgrade from Gerald Parker in 2023." - Jesse Simonton, On3

What's important about the positioning for Notre Dame's ranking this season is that if the Irish do in fact rank in the area where most have them, which is 6th through 8th, it would mean that not only would Notre Dame make the College Football Playoff, but it would also host a first round playoff game inside Notre Dame Stadium.

Should Notre Dame earn a No. 7 ranking, for example, it would mean they would be the No. 7 seed and would play the No. 10 seed at home, which in this particular ranking would be Missouri. If the Irish won they would play the No. 2 seed in a bowl game, which in this ranking would be Ohio State.

Three Notre Dame opponents were also ranked in the latest Top 25 from On3.

Florida State is Notre Dame's highest ranked opponent with most services and that continued with On3. The Seminoles checked in at No. 16 in the latest On3 rankings. Louisville is also a consistent Top 25 team for the preseason, and the Cardinals rank No. 21 in the latest On3 update. Rounding out the list is Texas A&M, who ranked No. 23 in the latest ranking. There is clearly some excitement about what former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko is doing in College Station, as the Aggies are coming off a 7-6 but find themselves in most of these Top 25 rankings.

Notre Dame kicks the season off on August 31st with a road game against Texas A&M. The Irish host Louisville on September 28th and take on Florida State inside Notre Dame Stadium on November 9th.
