Notre Dame received multiple public commitments on Saturday during their battle against Ohio State. One came right after the game concluded from 2025 Highland Home (Ala.) High School defensive end CJ May, who is one of the top pass rushers in the country.

Heading into the visit, things were trending really well between the Alabama native and the Irish. The staff can give a huge assist to their 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight who committed last Monday.

"It really means a lot to me to be a part of this class with one of my best friends Deuce Knight because he played a big part in my commitment,” May told Irish Breakdown. "He really made me feel wanted outside of the coaching staff so why not try to help build this Notre Dame 2025 class with him?”

Despite the final score of the game, this weekend was once in a lifetime opportunity for May. He wasn’t necessarily planning on making his decision this weekend but everything just aligned when he got on campus.

"The visit was a once in a lifetime experience,” he explained. "The atmosphere was a one-of-one experience. You can’t beat it.

"It was just one of the things that I've been thinking about for a while now,” May added. "The moment just felt right and I decided to pull the trigger.”

For some this decision might seem a little out of nowhere, leading to some questions about whether it was impulsive. Emotions can ride high in recruiting at times so having those thoughts is understandable. While the visit may have solidified things for May, it’s the relationship he’s been building and the culture that really have led him to this decision.

"The family-like environment in the staff and around campus just hits home for me,” he said. "Also the love I get from the coaching staff on a daily basis is just phenomenal.”

May is the firth commitment in the 2025 recruiting class, which has a chance to be special. Getting this type of talented pass rusher out of the state of Alabama is massive.

The 6-4, 225-pound pass rusher has already garnered interest from some premier programs in college football. May currently holds offers from the Irish, Georgia, Clemson, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, Duke, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt among others.

May is considered a four-star recruit both on the 247Sports and On3 Industry rankings. The former has him the highest, currently pegging the Alabama native as the No. 171 overall player and No. 18 edge defender in the 2025 recruiting class.

As a sophomore, May put together a quality season for Highland Home. He registered 50 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Through four games as a junior, May has collected 16 total tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks. He has also broken up three passes so far.
