One of the more talented defensive lineman on the board in the 2025 class is Chicago (Ill.) Simeon standout Christopher Burgess, who was offered back on St. Patrick’s Day during the Pot of Gold offer event. Earlier this month, Burgess made the trip back to Notre Dame for the third time this off-season for the Irish Invasion.

That event allowed Burgess the opportunity to work with Al Washington, who he has been developing a deeper bond with. As a whole, the whole Irish staff has really been making the Chicago standout feel like a priority.

"Coach Washington is a good dude and we’re building a great relationship,” Burgess said. "I learned a lot from Coach Washington at the camp. It was nice working out with some of the top prospects in the country.

"My relationship with Notre Dame and the coaches has been going very well,” he continued. "I feel the love every time I step on campus.”

Burgess’s recruitment has begun to really heat over over the last several months. Notre Dame is among the schools that have been standing out so far.

“Recruiting is cool right now,” Burgess stated. “I have a few more visits set up. I might go to Alabama soon. They said that they really like me a lot so getting down there should be run.”

“Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois and Notre Dame all have been doing a good job,” Burgess added. “Those schools are really standing out.”

Notre Dame hopes to continue their momentum. Chicago is poised to be a very important area for them in 2025, with Burgess a big part of it.

The 6-4, 240-pound pass rusher was a huge part of a 12-1 Simeon squad that finished off the season with a 33-30 victory over Fenwick. That talented squad outscored their opponents by a 512 to 197 point margin. Burgess was among the more talented players on the roster, including wide receiver Malik Elzy who Notre Dame recruited a bit during the 2023 cycle.

The toolsy Burgess is just starting to get his footing in terms of the recruiting landscape. He is starting to garner interest from several notable programs in the Midwest. Some of his top offers so far include Notre Dame, Illinois, Louisville and Purdue among others. Schools like Michigan and Wisconsin are a few of the other schools who have also been in contact.

In a recent ranking update, Burgess was rated as the No. 130 overall player and No. 13 edge in the 2025 recruiting class according to On3. They also have him rated as the No. 5 player from the state of Illinois, a state that is littered with high level talent in 2025.
