Defensive End Loghan Thomas Commits To Notre Dame

In this story:
Notre Dame continues its red hot defensive recruiting by picking up a big commitment from Katy (Texas) Paetow edge rusher Loghan Thomas. Thomas pledged to the Irish over Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Arizona.
Thomas made multiple trips to Notre Dame in the last couple of months, and those two trips are what pushed the Irish over the top. Making the two trips also allowed Thomas to make a calm, rational decision, something that would have been challenging after an outstanding visit to Notre Dame in March.
"First time I went down there I had a great time, I could picture myself being there," Thomas told Irish Breakdown. "I wanted the trip to wear off and get back up there and make sure what I felt wasn't a one-time thing. Then when I went up there (in May) it felt like home."
Thomas had been to schools in the past that left him with a strong initial feeling, but that quickly faded. With Notre Dame, however, that feeling never went away.
"I went to a couple of schools where I felt like I could be there, but as the day went by I felt like no, this isn't me," Thomas explained. "When I went to Notre Dame the first time I didn't really see anything I didn't like about it up there. But when I went up there the bond I had with the coaches, all the people up there, it was amazing."
Thomas always wanted to make an early decision, and during both of his visits to Notre Dame the feeling was the same.
"I wanted to commit before the season, that way I could be focused on my team," Thomas noted. "(Notre Dame) felt right."
There was a lot about Notre Dame that led Thomas to this decision, including the pitch the Fighting Irish staff gave him about his fit into the defensive system.
"I feel like what they are doing on defense is what I'm doing on defense," Thomas said of his Notre Dame fit. "They show off my versatility. I can rush the passer, defend the run and drop back into the coverage. Playing in that defense would really show off my versatility for the next level."
Of course, Thomas also embraced what Notre Dame can do for him off the field.
"I want to be challenged in the classroom, also," Thomas said of his decision to commit to Notre Dame.
Being an all-around person, one that thrives on and off the field, is something Thomas takes pride in.
"I'm really big on building relationships and getting to know people for who they are," Thomas said of the things he values. "Being a leader and changing the community for the better (are important for me)."
Thomas graded out as a 4.0-star player and a Top 100 caliber recruit on the Irish Breakdown board. The Paetow star is ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 101 overall player in the country according to On3. He is also ranked as the No. 9 edge player in the country according to On3.
Thomas earned offers from Notre Dame, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Arizona, Duke, Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado, Houston and SMU.
This is the third defensive end commitment for Notre Dame in the 2024 class, with Thomas joining Cole Mullins and Bryce Young as Fighting Irish pledges.
