Chicago Defensive Lineman Christopher Burgess Recaps Recent Notre Dame Visit

Talented 2025 pass rusher Christopher Burgess goes in depth on recent Notre Dame visit

This past weekend was a busy one for the Notre Dame coaching and recruiting staff. With spring practice fully underway, the staff also welcomed a flurry of talented recruits in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.

Among the talented group of players, 2025 Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess made the trip to campus for the first time since the Stanford game last season. That game visit was rushed, giving Burgess little time to really get the full scope of the Notre Dame program. This visit served that purpose.

“The visit went really well,” Burgess said. Seeing the practice was one of the coolest parts.

“It was extremely intense,” he continued. “There was great energy throughout and players were flying around.”

Over the last few weeks, Burgess’ relationship with the Irish staff has increased exponentially. That continued on Saturday, where he and his family had the chance to sit down with those coaches.

“I got to sit down with Coach (Al) Washington and other members of the coaching staff for about an hour,” Burgess stated. “It was great getting to talk with them in person and really get to know each other on a deeper level. We have been talking every week and building that relationship.”

The other big part of these visits are the chance for the recruits to tour the campus and really develop an understanding of student life. Unfortunately the weather prevented that part of the visit but it just gives Burgess a reason to come back in the future.

“I liked the campus a lot but it was raining so we decided to not take the tour today,” he said. “We are excited to get back again in the future and really explore even more.”

The 6-4, 230-pound pass rusher was a huge part of a 12-1 Simeon squad that finished off the season with a 33-30 victory over Fenwick. That talented squad outscored their opponents by a 512 to 197 point margin. Burgess was among the more talented players on the roster, including wide receiver Malik Elzy who Notre Dame recruited a bit during the 2023 cycle.

The toolsy Burgess is just starting to get his footing in terms of the recruiting landscape. He is starting to garner interest from several notable programs in the Midwest. Some of his top offers so far include Notre Dame, Illinois, Louisville and Purdue among others. Schools like Michigan and Wisconsin are a few of the other schools who have also been in contact.

In a recent ranking update, Burgess was rated as the No. 130 overall player and No. 13 edge in the 2025 recruiting class according to On3. They also have him rated as the No. 5 player from the state of Illinois, a state that is littered with high level talent in 2025.
