Notre Dame Moves The Needle With Quarterback Deuce Knight

In this story:
Coming into this past weekend, Notre Dame had caught the attention of 2025 Lucedale (Miss.) George County quarterback Deuce Knight. The Mississippi native was incredibly complimentary of the Irish program, citing how much the staff has made him a priority and continued to sell the overall vision.
Intrigue quickly turned into heavy interest for Knight by the time his visit was completed. The program was able to check every box and showcase just how special of a place Notre Dame is.
"I had a great time on the visit,” Knight told Irish Breakdown. 'From the campus tour, watching the practice, talking with all the coaches, it all was super impressive.
"The campus is definitely different,” continued the four-star quarterback. "It’s not very big but it’s got this vibe to it that’s hard to describe. You have the church, the Golden Dome, all of those really cool buildings. It’s a really pretty campus.”
Notre Dame also impressed Knight’s father, who also made the trip.
"My dad came with me on the trip,” Knight said. "He really liked it a lot. The staff also made him feel like he was at home.”
The biggest takeaway from the visit was the impact that the coaches had on Knight. From head coach Marcus Freeman to quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli, they all really showcased their personalities and showed their vision. Seeing them in person was important for Knight.
"I was just ready to meet everyone in person,” he began to explain. "Actually getting to see them, it’s very different. Obviously we have been calling and FaceTiming, but it’s a different feeling in person. Being able to sit down in the meeting rooms, the coaches really exceeded expectations.
“Coach Guidugli is a very energetic guy, which I expected after talking with him on the phone,” Knight continued. “He’s out there doing the drills with the players. He’s throwing, running with them. He really doesn’t get mad at all. He coaches his guys hard but makes sure that they know what is expected of them and helps them to figure it out.”
At the top, Freeman quickly made Knight feel like he was at home. His pitch wasn’t as much based on the fit on the field, but what Notre Dame can provide off of it.
"Coach Freeman really stresses being a better version of yourself,” Knight noted. "He wants all his players to be better players, better men, better sons, better husbands and better fathers. It’s about the quality of a person.”
The next couple of months will consist of some school visits and really trying to find the right fit for Knight. Some of those visits include South Carolina and Mississippi State, as well as return visits to Notre Dame and Tennessee this summer. That leads up to a commitment happening sometime this off-season.
"I don’t really have a cemented timeline,” he explained. "I do want to make a college decision before my junior season but there is no date in mind to make the commitment. It could happen in July, it could happen in August, it could happen in a couple weeks. I’m not really sure when I’ll know for sure.”
Knight is a talented prospect that ranks as the nation's No. 62 overall player and No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class according to On3
The 6-5, 185-pound signal caller is already being courted by some top programs. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn, Washington, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Indiana among others.
During his sophomore campaign, Knight put together a standout performance. He threw for 1,929 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine games. His completion percentage was 62 and only threw four interceptions on the season.
Knight was also a dynamic playmaker on the ground, exploding for 488 yards and 12 touchdowns on 58 carries. That is good for an 8.4 yard per carry average with a long run of 80 on the season.
It should be no surprise based on his family background that Knight is such a talented athlete. His older brother is Ty Fryfogle, who was a star wide receiver for the University of Indiana from 2017-2021. During that time, Fryfogle hauled in 158 passes for 2,231 yards and 14 touchdowns.
