Notre Dame Offers Versatile 2024 Defender Chris Cole

Notre Dame added another talented defender to the 2024 recruiting board on Tuesday, extending an offer to Salem (Va.) High School athlete Chris Cole. The Virginia standout has one of the more intriguing and unique physical profiles of any player in the class.

Cole’s recruiting ranking does not match his offer list currently. As of right now, he is rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 61 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports.

Despite that oddly low ranking, Cole currently holds an impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs that have extended offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Texas A&M, Auburn, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

On film, Salem High School asks Cole to assume a lot of different roles. The 6-3, 210-pound athlete is playing everywhere from linebacker, edge, safety and wide receiver for his team. That versatility makes Cole an interesting player who fits that “positionless” moniker on the defensive side of the football.

Cole’s most natural projection may be at linebacker, where Notre Dame is amidst one of the odder cycles in recent memory. It is an incredibly talented board for the Irish but there are some questions about just how it will shake out. Adding Cole to that list is worth keeping an eye on.
