2024 Cornerback Marcellus Barnes Sets Visit To Notre Dame

The Notre Dame staff has been keeping tabs on some extremely talented cornerbacks in the 2024 recruiting class. They already have two commitments from Texas standout Leonard Moore and Ohio native Karson Hobbs, which is an excellent early haul in the cycle.

There is a need for a third cornerback in the 2024 class and the staff has been diligent to find the right fit. One player that the staff has been keeping close tabs on is Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie star Marcellus Barnes Jr., who will be making his first trip to South Bend on March 25th for an unofficial visit.

Despite not currently holding an offer from the Irish, Barnes is a player that the staff has been forming a great relationship with over the last few months. The Tennessee native is excited to make that trip to see Notre Dame and continue to grow that relationship.

"My recruitment has been going pretty well, just busy of course,” Barnes said. "I can’t wait to visit the campus, especially with the love that I’ve been receiving from them.

"We have been in contact for some time and are developing a good relationship,” he continued.

Barnes has an expanding offer list that promises to grow exponentially once the dead period ends. Some of his notable offers to date include Minnesota, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. Programs such as Notre Dame, LSU, Kentucky and Louisville are also showing substantial interest.

The 6-2, 170-pound cover man put together a standout junior campaign for the McCallie Blue Tornado. Barnes recorded 33 total tackles, an interception and five pass breakups. He also recovered two fumbles and recorded half a tackle for loss.

It promises to be a busy off-season for Barnes, who already has visits planned to Baylor, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia on top of his visit to South Bend. It will be interesting to see Barnes’ impressions of the program after the visit and whether the Irish staff pulls the trigger and extends an offer.
