Notre Dame 2024 Offensive Line Commits Are Eyeing Big Senior Year Jumps

In this story:
With less than a month away from high school football officially kicking off, all the various recruits around college football are set for big seasons. Among the 2024 recruiting class, there are several Notre Dame recruits that expect big senior year jumps.
Let’s take a look at the offensive line group, where they are already on film and where they need to take a step forward. If they do, it has a chance to be an excellent offensive line group.
OL Peter Jones - Malvern (Pa.) Prep
One of the first members of the 2024 recruiting class, Jones barely gets any mention from Notre Dame fans. It’s partly because he’s been in the class for so long, and also because he brings a throwback style that isn’t flashy. Jones is a heavy handed offensive lineman who creates some easy movement.
His hand usage is also very solid. Jones’ aiming points are consistent, which allows him to gain control of defensive players early in reps. It’s the same in the passing game, where Jones’ experience at offensive tackle should serve him very well with potentially moving inside.
NEXT STEP AS A SENIOR
Jones does have a little bit of hip tightness, which is the main reason that some project him inside. If he is able to improve that hip mobility, it will serve him well to potentially stick outside at offensive tackle on the next level.
There are also times where Jones' feet can stall on contact. He needs to be more consistent to roll hips through contact. That attention to detail will allow him to transform into an even better run blocker.
OL Anthonie Knapp - Roswell (Ga.) HS
When you talk about nastiness and physicality, there aren’t much better than Knapp in the 2024 class. He plays with heavy hands and bad intent in the run game, showing displacement power to move the line of scrimmage in the offense’s favor.
As a pass protector, Knapp shows outstanding balance and patience. He remains attached to defensive lineman well, maintaining proper leverage and keeping defenders in chaos. That prowess as a pass blocker may allow him to get a serious shot playing outside on the next level despite marginal size.
NEXT STEP AS A SENIOR
The word is that Knapp has gained a substantial amount of weight, hovering around the 280 pound mark this off-season. That is some really good news for him, especially because his size is the main concern right now. There is a simple question about how he could carry that weight, while potentially maintaining athleticism.
There are times where Knapp can play a little over aggressively. That can cause him to get over his toes at times, causing his chest to get over his toes too often. It doesn’t hurt him a ton on the high school level but it’s something to focus on.
OT Styles Prescod - Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern
From a body type perspective, Prescod is a long offensive tackle who has a lot of developmental upside to work with. You see the length for Prescod really pops on film. He can play outside of his frame well against defenders with high level speed.
For a skinnier offensive lineman, Prescod does play with a nice level or physicality. He has some shock in his hands, showing displacement power to create movement. The building blocks are there.
NEXT STEP AS A SENIOR
Prescod does play a little high, which appears to hurt his lateral mobility at times. There seems to be a nice level of foot quickness so playing with a better base and pad level should help a ton. That will also allow him to establish and maintain level more consistently.
Obviously there is physical development that is needed. From the sounds of it, Prescod is over 280 pounds now so seeing how he has developed physically will be big. Natural power will come as he adds to his core.
TOP TARGET STILL OUT THERE
There is one key target that is still out there for Notre Dame. In the case he chooses Notre Dame, let’s evaluate what Guerby Lambert brings to the table.
OT Guerby Lambert - West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial
There aren’t many offensive tackles who are more physically impressive than Lambert, if any. It starts with his combination of length and athleticism. You see with his work in space and in pass protection, Lambert moves extremely well for his size. He has the look of a starting blindside protector on the next level without question.
His length is especially evident in pass protection. It’s extremely difficult to get into Lambert’s frame. When his hand play is good, it’s almost impossible to beat him as a pass rusher.
NEXT STEP AS A SENIOR
There are times where Lambert looks a little rushed. It appears that the game is still slowing down for him, which is to be expected for a player whose technique is still a bit of a work in progress. He can at times look a little out of control overall.
Sometimes Lambert relies a little too much on his length. He needs to play with more active feet to keep his base under him. There’s times where he can get too out in front of his knees.
