Among the most anticipated recent recruiting visitors for last weekend’s Blue-Gold Game was 2024 American Fork (Utah) High School safety Davis Andrews, someone Notre Dame has been high on for a long time. The talented Utah defender went in depth on that first trip to South Bend, which gave him some valuable insight into what the program can provide.

From the campus tour, the scrimmage, conversations with the coaches and a round of golf with former Irish star Kyle Hamilton, it was a weekend to remember for Andrews. When asked about his favorite parts, it was hard for the talented defender to select just one, which is a massive compliment to the staff’s efforts.

"I would say the highlight was honestly the whole trip,” Andrews told Irish Breakdown. "It was really cool. I have never been out east from Utah so I wanted to see everything. I would say the highlight is seeing how awesome the campus was and how welcoming all the coaches and the fan base was.”

Over the last few months, Andrews has developed deep relationships with the Notre Dame staff. They continued this past weekend, seeing him become closer and closer to the Irish coaches. Andrews appreciates the full scope of understanding that they were able to provide for what the program can provide.

"The conversations with the coaches were really put together,” he said. "They all preached about the Notre Dame degree and not even that, you get to play at the highest level of football that you can. You get everything I feel like the word balance is what stands out most about the program.”

The big spectacle of this type of weekend is the game. While Andrews appreciated that part, it was only a small element of the trip. For Andrews, that was just a brief insight into a game day in South Bend.

"The game, although pretty cool, was just a little taste of the Notre Dame traditions,” Andrews explained. "It was awesome to look out because you always hear about Notre Dame football but it was cool to be there and experience for yourself even though it was just a spring game.”

Andrews recently announced his final six schools, which included Notre Dame. It also included Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, BYU and Stanford. Andrews plans to take official visits this summer, and could possibly extend those visits into the fall. Right now the plan is to take those visits before making a decision.

“I am .... figuring out my official visits,” he explained. “I .... want to commit after I take all of (my visits) and take everything into account.”

With summer being a very busy time for Andrews, there is a possibility that a game day official visit may be more practical. That is something that is still being worked out.

The offer list is continuing to expand quickly with so much recruiting attention coming Andrews’ way. Some of the notable programs who have offered so far include the Irish, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Stanford, Arizona, Colorado, Washington State, Northwestern, Cal and BYU among others.

The 6-2, 190-pound athlete was a playmaker on the back end of the defense for American Fork. In twelve games, he recorded 45 total tackles, intercepted four passes, had three forced fumbles and recovered another.
