Cornerback Chuck McDonald III "Excited And Honored" By Notre Dame Offer

Star 2025 Mater Dei cornerback Chuck McDonald III goes in depth on recent Pot of Gold offer from Notre Dame

The fortunes of the cornerback room at Notre Dame has gone from spotty to tremendous in just a couple of years. Part of that is because of the development of current players on the roster, and of course, recruiting at a high level.

On Friday, Notre Dame extended an offer to Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei cornerback Chuck McDonald III during their annual Pot of Gold event. One of the top defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class, McDonald and the staff had already been developing a bond but this official offer really stuck with him.

“I was very excited and honored to receive an offer from such an elite football program,” McDonald said. “Coach (Mike) Mickens extended the offer to me and I’m really looking forward to continuing to build a good relationship with him.

“My initial thoughts on Notre Dame has always been good,” he continued. “I really like how good their education is and they always seem to be a winning program that gets their athletes better, not only on the field but off the field also.”

Overall, the Pot of Gold event was a massive success when talking to the 80 plus recruits who were offered on Friday. McDonald verified his support for the event and the uniqueness of it.

“The Pot of Gold offer event really surprised me because I had never seen a school do this before,” said McDonald. “It was really cool and I really liked it.”

McDonald, already being one of the more talented players on a notoriously excellent Mater Dei squad, is already grabbing the attention of the elite across all of college football. Some of his notable programs who have extended offers so far include the Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Miami, USC, Florida State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Washington, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Colorado and Arizona among others.

Rivals has McDonald pegged as a four-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. On that ranking, he currently sits as the No. 72 overall player and No. 9 cornerback in the class.

The 6-1, 180-pound cornerback assumed a starting role as a sophomore. He collected 28 total tackles, one tackle for loss and six breakups on the season. McDonald also forced a fumble and blocked two punts for the Monarchs.

With that type of fanfare, interest and impressive profile, you should expect that recruiting has been and will continue to be hectic. McDonald is looking at it as a chance to really do his research and find the right fit.

“My recruiting process has been going well so far,”he explained. “I’ve just been trying to grow relationships with some schools to see what school is the right fit for me as a person and also as an athlete.”
