This weekend promises to be one to remember for the Notre Dame program. There will be a large group of talented recruits on campus for the Blue-Gold Game, including 2025 Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood pass rusher Gus Ritchey.

This marks a return visit for the North Carolina standout, who visited back on March 22nd. That trip ended with an offer for Ritchey, who is excited to get a different perspective this weekend.

“I really want to see how they’re doing with some of the new coaches,” Ritchey explained to Irish Breakdown. “I’m also excited to be around some of the recruits that are in town. What I most want to see is the atmosphere in the stadium. I know it’s a spring game but this is something I always wanted to see.

“My mom, Erin Ritchey, will also be coming with me,” he continued. “She is really excited to see everything!”

Since being offered last month, the relationship between Ritchey and the staff has grown exponentially. Early on, the standout sophomore seems to really like the potential fit.

“The relationships have been great so far!” Ritchey said. “I’m excited to build on them. I think it’s a great fit there for me. I think my attitude and work ethic would be perfect at a place like Notre Dame.”

Overall, recruiting has been hectic for Ritchey. With over 20 reported offers already to his name, he is hearing from several notable programs. With that, it has become a well traveled off-season so far.

“Recruiting has been great!” Ritchey said. “It’s been a lot of fun. I have just recently visited Duke, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Miami. We plan on getting to Texas A&M, USC, and UNC as well.”

Notre Dame will have a chance to grab his attention this weekend among a long list of big time suitors. Two visits in a month is a very good sign for legitimate interest from the talented defender.

The 6-3, 230-pound athlete has already garnered the attention of several big time programs. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Ole Miss, North Carolina, NC State, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Duke among others.

Ritchey is already well liked from a recruiting ranking perspective. He is currently pegged as a four-star recruit by Rivals, the only site who has evaluated him thus far. They have him ranked as the No. 102 overall player and No. 8 strongside defensive end in the 2025 recruiting class.

As a sophomore, Ritchey put together a dynamic season on both sides of the football. As the team’s starting tight end, he hauled in 32 receptions for 490 yards and five touchdowns. He would also rush for a touchdown on the ground.

On defense, he collected 61 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss and ten sacks. Ritchey also forced two fumbles as well.
