2026 Quarterback Nathan Bernhard Ready For Notre Dame Atmosphere

With Notre Dame already a commitment from elite 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight, the Irish staff can already turn their attention to the 2026 class. This weekend, star Ashland (Ohio) High School signal caller Nathan Bernhard will be visiting South Bend for the team’s battle against the Pitt Panthers.

Bernhard is excited for this gameday visit to campus. He has expectations for what he will see this weekend.

"I expect a great atmosphere and am looking forward to the game day experience,” Bernhard told Irish Breakdown. "Notre Dame has a great tradition and it looks like Coach (Marcus) Freeman has good things building there.

"Recruiting wise I’ve only really had contact with Gino (Guidugli) a little bit and was invited to the game by Dre Brown,” he continued. "Obviously contact is limited right now but I’m excited to see them in person.”

With Bernhard being just a sophomore, things are really just starting to heat up. He is already considered one of the more talented passers in the 2026 class, which makes it interesting to see what happens between him and Notre Dame.

"It’s still kind of early in the recruiting process so I wouldn’t say anyone stands out completely yet,” he said. "I’m excited to see some players for the first time, including Notre Dame.”

Notre Dame has already offered six quarterbacks so far in the 2026 class. Could Bernhard be the next one? We might found out this weekend.

Bernhard is considered to be a four-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals. The former has him ranked as the No. 80 overall player and No. 8 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class. 247Sports also has Bernhard rated as the No. 4 player in the state of Ohio.

Despite Bernhard being just a sophomore, he has collected several impressive offers already. Some of the notable programs who have offered include Penn State, Michigan State, Louisville, Iowa State and Duke among others.
