Notre Dame A Top School Early For Virginia Defensive Lineman Samuel Cohen

Back on the St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold offer event, 2025 Richmond (Va.) Huguenot standout defensive lineman Samuel Cohen was one of the talented recruits who was extended an offer by Notre Dame. Since then, the Irish staff has remained in consistent communication and really made Cohen feel wanted.

Even while holding an offer, the Virginia native still opted to camp at Notre Dame this off-season to work with the coaches. It should be no surprise that Cohen is high on Notre Dame early on, sitting as a top three school for him currently.

“Recently I’d say Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech are at the top but I’d say all the schools are doing a great job,” Cohen told Irish Breakdown. “They are just the ones who have been really consistent so far.”

A big reason for that early momentum, the Notre Dame coaches. The staff members have clearly made Cohen feel like a priority.

“I personally think my relationship with Notre Dame is going up,” Cohen said. “It gets better every time I’m able to be in contact with them, especially with Coach Al Washington. The coaches and staff standout to me the most at all times. They do an amazing job.

“I feel like Notre Dame is doing an amazing job of recruiting me all around,” he added. “Their message to me is to stay humble throughout this recruiting process and to work hard and take care of myself. They care about the person, not just the player.”

As of now, there are no big summer visits planned. It feels like the fall will be a busy one for Cohen, who wants to hit the road to explore some more prospective schools.

“So far the recruitment process has been going great and as of right now I don’t have anything set up officially but I’m looking forward to going on visits and games,” Cohen explained. “Notre Dame is definitely a place I want to get up to see a game.”

Cohen holds down a defensive end spot for Huguenot, however, the Notre Dame staff has mentioned a move inside as a move for him on the college level. His development as a junior will be something worth keeping a close eye on. The Irish staff certainly is.

The offer list continues to expand for Cohen. So far some of the notable programs who have offered the Virginia star include Notre Dame, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Boston College among others.
