Notre Dame has continued to value length and versatility heavily on the defensive side of the football, including in the 2025 recruiting class earlier. One of the more diverse and talented defenders on the board is Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek athlete Anthony Williams, who could potentially project well to either linebacker or edge rusher on the next level.

Since being offered on St. Patrick’s Day during the Pot of Gold offer event, the Irish staff has valued Williams heavily. That relationship has developed quickly in effect, really letting the program stand out big time.

“My relationship with Notre Dame is great right now,” Williams told Irish Breakdown. “I really like those guys up there. Coach (Al) Golden loves me. He is always telling me to stay in the books and get more muscle. He’s great.

“Notre Dame is standing out really big for me,” he continued. “Their message to me is keep working and put a movie on the film this upcoming year because it is going to be really big for me and my recruitment. I’m just excited to show out and continue to grow a bond with those guys.”

Williams is setting up to finish the summer off with a flurry of campus visits. While Notre Dame won’t be a part of the tour, the Texas native is adamant that he wants to finally get to South Bend. He will be staying local on the upcoming travels.

“I’ve really been enjoying the process and getting to visit some of these schools,” he said. “I’m going to be visiting the University of Texas on the 27th, Houston on the 28th, as well as Baylor and Texas Tech on the 29th.”

Even with never having been to campus yet, Williams still lists Notre Dame as one of his top schools. It’s a good place to be in, which is big for the Irish staff who has continued to really value the state of Texas under Marcus Freeman.

“Some of those schools have really been doing a good job,” said Williams. “Right now I’d say Texas Tech, Baylor, Notre Dame, UTSA and TCU are the schools who are showing the most interest.”

On film, Williams does a lot of his work on the edge for Shadow Creek. He has a skill set that could potentially make an impact at either linebacker or on the edge full time. This type of athleticism and versatility is something that the Irish staff has been drawn to.

The 6-4, 205-pound linebacker has been capturing the attention of several standout programs. Some of the notable offers that Williams has been extended include Notre Dame, Oregon, Nebraska, TCU, Arizona State, Washington State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Cal, SMU, Kansas among several others.

As a sophomore, Williams assumed a significant role on the Shadow Creek defense. He recorded 26 total tackles and eight tackles for loss in just eight games. Williams also had a pass breakups and a forced fumble as well.
