The last week has been extremely busy for 2025 Chicago (Ill.) Simeon standout edge Chris Burgess. He was recently offered during the Pot of Gold last week on Friday but even before then, he had plans to potentially get to practice this weekend for spring practice.

That date has been solidified and reaffirmed. Growing up in Chicago, Burgess is very aware of the Notre Dame program and is excited to get on campus and really develop a deeper understanding for the team, coaches and program overall.

“I am really looking forward to it,” Burgess said. “I’m heading there this weekend on Saturday.

“I am looking forward to seeing practice,” he continued. “Last time I was up there it was kind of rushed. We drove up right after my game and watched the Stanford game. I was pretty tired and probably should’ve stayed home.”

Despite a standout sophomore campaign for Simeon, the more intriguing part is that Burgess is only starting to tap into his upside on the football field. He is still new to the game and expects to take a huge step as a junior.

“It was my first year really ever playing,” Burgess explained. “I played AAU basketball in the past. I let it go to focus on Football. I started playing football and never picked up a basketball again. I love the game. I’ve been working really hard on my speed this off-season.”

Burgess is certainly talented. If he does indeed tap into his long term potential in 2023, the sky is truly the limit. There is little doubt that a lot of top programs will be checking in more frequently soon.

The 6-4, 230-pound pass rusher was a huge part of a 12-1 Simeon squad that finished off the season with a 33-30 victory over Fenwick. That talented squad outscored their opponents by a 512-197 point margin. Burgess was among the more talented players on the roster, including wide receiver Malik Elzy who Notre Dame recruited a bit during the 2023 cycle.

The toolsy Burgess is just starting to get his footing in terms of the recruiting landscape. He is starting to garner interest from several notable programs in the Midwest. Some of his top offers so far include Notre Dame, Illinois and Purdue among others. Schools like Michigan and Wisconsin are a few of the other schools who have also been in contact.
