Notre Dame went through a period in May and June where it racked up a number of defensive commits, and Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry linebacker Bodie Kahoun was part of that rush. That commitment came just a few weeks after Kahoun visited for the Notre Dame Blue-Gold Game.

This past weekend, Kahoun made the return to South Bend for the first time since he made his commitment to the Irish. This was a defensive heavy official visit weekend, giving the Notre Dame commits to really develop deeper relationships.

"Everything has been incredible since I committed,” Kahoun told Irish Breakdown. "I’ve made new friends with my future teammates. They are all awesome. I spent a lot of time with them during the official visit. I learned how they are and they learned a lot about me. I’m really excited to spend time with them in the future.”

Thinking back to Kahoun’s decision, it was mostly about all that Notre Dame can provide on and off the field. The Virginia native clearly understands the full scope of being a member of the program.

"For me, I am huge on academics,” said Kahoun. "I’ve been working hard on it my whole life and I want to go to a place that can really reward me for that. A degree from Notre Dame can get you a job anywhere you want in the world if you really want it.

"It’s also a top tier football team so it’s personally a no-brainer in my books,” he continued. “How you are at Notre Dame prepares you for the real world. That’s how I look at it. That’s why I love Notre Dame.”

With reality setting in this past weekend, Kahoun had a real taste of what it means to be an official member of the class. It was everything that he imagined it would be, cementing his decision.

"We all had a great time this past weekend,” he stated. "I’m never going to change my mind.”

There were some nerves going into that weekend for Kahoun. Leaving, it was replaced with even more excitement to be a part of the family.

"It was really fun,” Kahoun explained. "Going into the visit, I was really nervous. I’m terrible at making new friends but it was so much fun. We are all still texting about the official visit today. We’re all having fun. We all got to see the true selves of people. I already call guys like Teddy (Rezac) close friends.

"It was just awesome,” Kahoun added. "It was definitely a different type of visit because you’re committed. It felt way better honestly because it’s not stressful. When everyone got there, we were kinda quiet at first on Thursday night. Then Karson (Hobbs) gets everyone going and after that, we all felt like we have all seen each other for years. None of us were scared of anyone. We were all comfortable with everyone. We all had a great time. It was just fun.”

Kahoun wasn’t the only person who enjoyed the weekend. His family was also able to make the trip. It was a special experience for them as well.

"They took it more as an enjoyable visit,” Kahoun said. “It’s not as stressful and they weren’t trying to take all these notes down in their meetings. This was my mom’s second time because she couldn’t come up for the spring game. She loved it. The weather was awesome. It was perfect. They love it.”

Notre Dame is betting on the upside of Kahoun, who is an incredibly talented athlete who is still new to the linebacker position. There is no questioning that Kahoun is fully bought into the Irish.

The 6-2, 220-pound standout linebacker had continued to see his offer list expand over the last few months heading into the decision. Some of the notable programs that had offered Kahoun included the Irish, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana among others.

The dual-sport star is currently one of the top athletes on the 5-A level in Virginia. Despite his obvious connection to the state of Virginia, Kahoun actually did grow up in Zionsville, Indiana. He has his Midwest roots and was clearly very aware of the brand that Notre Dame boasts.

Kahoun is also a standout lacrosse player for Patrick Henry. The star midfielder had been committed to Ohio State for lacrosse since September of 2022. His ability to potentially play football, or both sports, in college has changed his outlook to explore different options on the next level. That journey has led him to this commitment with the Irish.
