Notre Dame Commit Cam Williams Continues To Show Elite Skills

In this story:
For the second straight year, Notre Dame is aiming to finalize another stellar class under head coach Marcus Freeman. One of the notable early additions and one of the leaders of the class is Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South wide receiver Cam Williams, who is regarded as one of the top pass catchers in the entire country.
With Williams right in Notre Dame’s backyard, landing the talented wide receiver was incredibly important. Notre Dame also got on the talented pass catcher before his recruiting profile took off.
THE NOTRE DAME COMMIT
Williams has seen a dramatic rise in recruiting rankings following his dynamic junior campaign. He is now a near consensus Top 50 overall recruit nationally. The On3 ranking has Williams ranked highest, currently sitting as the No. 33 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class. Each platform has Williams pegged as the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois.
When Notre Dame secured a commitment from Williams back in June of last year, he was already an outstanding player but didn’t rank as a Top 100 recruit by any of the major recruiting platforms. In fact, most of them had Williams pegged somewhere in the 200s.
Then he put together an absolutely dominant junior campaign, leading Glenbard South with 1,022 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns on just 47 receptions, a not too shabby 21.7 yard per catch average. Williams also scored another touchdown on the ground and returned two more interceptions for scores.
There’s no question that the Irish staff had some foresight with Williams. They saw the talent and the Chicago star showcased it this past season. Williams has rewarded them with his full commitment and desire to grow the 2024 class.
"Everyone who has committed since CJ (Carr), Jack (Larsen) and I have been welcomed with open arms of course,” Williams told Irish Breakdown. "That kind of brotherhood and relationship with the guys plays a big role in the future and will continue to do so. It’s a special group. We’re excited to be a part of the reason Notre Dame gets to the top.”
A big reason for his commitment to the Notre Dame program is due to his relationship with the Irish staff. The most notable one, wide receiver coach Chansi Stuckey, who has made a massive impact on the talented pass catcher.
"With Coach Stuckey, I've been in this position with him for a minute now and just like all relationships over time they grow and grow closer,” said Williams. "The bond has grown tremendously and same thing with the guys. Calling ourselves a family can sound cliche, but it’s really true.”
THE OFF-SEASON
As if Williams’ skills on a football field weren’t enough, he’s also a star on both the basketball court and track for Glenbard South. During the spring, the junior showcased just how high caliber of an athlete he was.
In his first year as a part of the track and field team, Williams doubles as a sprinter and long jumper for the team. He posted personal best times of 10.86 seconds in the 100 meter dash, and a 21.98 second 200 meter dash. Both numbers are very good for a first-year runner.
In the long jump, however, Williams really shined. He posted a Top 15 jump nationally with a personal best of 24’ 3.75”. For context, 2023 cornerback signee Micah Bell had a personal best jump of 24’ 5.25”, and he was considered one of the most decorated track and field athletes that Notre Dame has signed in some time.
While track and field is more of an opportunity to stay in shape for Williams, it was also a great peak into just how talented of an athlete he is. It was something that was even some nice validation for Williams himself.
"This off-season has been full of plenty of rest and activity and I've been super excited for my senior season coming up,” he explained. "All this time during the track season when I had jumped my national mark, I feel like the significance of that jump having no technique really showed me what I'm capable of as an athlete.”
Time is flying by, just a couple of months until Williams’ senior season is set to begin. It’s surely for surreal for him, but Williams is treating this as a chance to end his career off on a high note.
"Personally my goals are to just improve from last season and try breaking some of the records I am close to breaking or have the ability to do this year,” Williams stated. "With my team and our young and tough squad, going further into the postseason than we’ve ever been would be awesome for us.”
As one of the early members of the 2024 class for Notre Dame, Williams has gone from talented athlete to dynamic future piece of the Irish program and key recruiter in the class. Williams is one of the huge reasons that optimism on the recruiting trail has gone to a completely different level under Coach Freeman.
