Notre Dame Commit Sean Sevillano Jr. Is Becoming Key Recruiter For The Irish

In this story:
On Sunday, Notre Dame hosted a long list of talented recruits for their “Grill and Chill” recruiting cookout. That includes several Irish commits, welcoming future members of the program back to South Bend. For the third time this off-season, 2024 Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr. made the trip.
Since committing to the Irish on June 2nd, Sevillano has been an exemplary member of the Irish class, sitting as one of the leaders in 2024. This most recent trip to campus gave him an opportunity to bond with his fellow commits on campus, as well as being a big salesman for the uncommitted 2025 players who made the trip.
"The experience was awesome, especially getting around the other commits on campus,” Sevillano told Irish Breakdown. "Those are my guys and it’s always great to be around them. It was also awesome to get around the 2025 recruits on campus, getting to know them, and really letting them know why Notre Dame is such a special place.”
The staff, other recruits and parents on campus really made an impact on Sevillano. By the end of the events on Sunday, everyone was like a whole big family.
"At the end of the trip, you were saying bye to everyone,” said Sevillano. "It’s like a big family. Even the guys who aren’t committed, you just feel like you’re talking to a friend. It’s special.”
A big reason for that was the efforts of the recruiting staff, who often don't get enough credit for all that they do. That isn’t the case for Sevillano, who deeply appreciates each one of them. From the start of the day, they showed their personalities, put on their Foot Locker shirts and put on a great visit for the recruits.
"I love the recruiting staff,” he explained. "From Chad (Bowden) to Dre (Brown), Carter (Auman), Caleb (Davis), they are all great. I’m tight with those guys. They take care of me.”
The staff wanted to bring out the competitiveness of the group of recruits, including dodgeball, knockout, Irish ball, trivia and a cook off. The latter was a big part of the trip for Sevillano, who boasted about his victory.
"It’s so cool to see the guys getting competitive,” said Sevillano. “They split us up into pods. I was in Pod Two with Ethan Long, Taebron (Bennie-Powell), JaDon Blair and a few others guys.
"Of course we won the cook off,” he continued. "I was the manager for the group. We had Taebron seasoning the steak. Ethan, JaDon and the guys were doing their thing. I just saw back and watched us get the W.”
One of the more interesting layers from the visit is how well represented the state of Florida was on campus. It has been a state that has alluded Notre Dame at times in recent years.
Sevillano was joined by fellow Irish commit in 2025 defensive tackle Davion Dixon. Recent running back commit Justin Thurman was also on campus, as well as 2025 defensive line target Jarquez Carter. Those four players had a great opportunity to really hit it off and get to know each other.
"It was great,” Sevillano noted. "Being around those guys is good, being able to relate and get to know each other better.
"I get to play Davion in week five, which will be fun,” he added. "We were talking smack all weekend. He is a great guy. Justin is only about 30 minutes down the road from me as well. We were all trying to convince Jarquez how great Notre Dame is and really sell him on the program.”
Sevillano has quickly become a great ambassador for the Notre Dame program. This visit allowed him to strengthen bonds, help recruit and enjoy his future home in South Bend.
Sevillano was a dominant force for Clearwater American International as a junior. On the season, he recorded 78 total tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 22 sacks and six forced fumbles. He did all that while only playing in just 11 games.
The 6-2, 300-pound defender chose the Irish over a long list of impressive offers. Some of the notable programs that extended offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, Louisville, Duke, Illinois, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Indiana, Iowa State and Kansas among others.
