Notre Dame Cornerback Commit Karson Hobbs Battling Back From Injury

In this story:
Ever since 2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller cornerback Karson Hobbs flipped his commitment from South Carolina to Notre Dame, he has become an ambassador for the Fighting Irish program. Now he is preparing for what should be a big senior season, although Hobbs is currently battling back from an injury.
Hobbs recently suffered an offseason thumb injury that required surgery. He is going to be sidelined for several weeks, but the Ohio standout is doing his absolute best to get back in action before week one of the season.
"Rehab has definitely been challenging,” Hobbs told Irish Breakdown. "It’s tough to see all of my guys out there competing. I’m there from a leadership perspective, but obviously limited physically. I want to be out there creating havoc.
"It was a very sudden injury but I am recovering quickly,” he continued. "It’s actually my first injury ever so just grinding through it. If I get the green light, I’m willing to risk it all. I’m doing everything I can to get back.”
There is no questioning the drive for Hobbs, who is the definition of a grinder. He wants to compete and is doing everything he can to be there for his team. It’s pretty easy to understand when you see the goals that the talented Archbishop Moeller squad have in front of them.
"The end goal is to go undefeated and win a state championship,” Hobbs explained. "We really think that we can win every game. St. Edward and Center Grove are two of the tougher games on the schedule but we are excited for the challenge.
"Individually, I want to have four interceptions and 20 pass breakups,” Hobbs continued. "I want to beat all the numbers I did last year and just become a better football player.”
This off-season, like the last couple, has been spent training nonstop. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, you can find the talented cornerback training with Bryson White and 220Athletes. Hobbs trains with some really notable players, including former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, who are helping to develop the next wave of great defensive backs.
"It’s huge to be around guys like this,” Hobbs said. "We train with Bryson White at 220Athletes. Players like Malik Hartford, Lathan Ransom and Jyaire Brown all train there. I also have brought a lot of guys there off-season to get extra work.

"Being around players who are a year older than me, or a step ahead, really pushes me to be the best,” he continued. "Two weeks before my sophomore year, I got told that I was moving from wide receiver to cornerback. That’s a tough transition to make. It takes some serious work. A lot of credit goes to them for helping to make it as smooth as possible.”
While his senior season is on the top of Hobbs’ mind, it isn’t lost on him how fortunate he is to be a part of the Notre Dame 2024 recruiting class. The next chapter is sure to be one to watch for Irish football.
"We think this could be the most special class Notre Dame has had in a long time,” he said. "The bond we have made gets closer and closer every time we see each other.
"Even with a couple decommitments, we think that will make us closer,” added Hobbs. "We have a good coaching staff and it is truly great to have people that really care. We have a lot of different people, from a lot of areas. It’s great to have such like minded individuals.”
Hobbs was previously committed to South Carolina but Notre Dame was just too good to pass up ultimately. The Ohio native also held offers from Kentucky and West Virginia among several others.
Archbishop Moeller suffered a heart breaking 28-24 loss in the playoffs against Springfield last season. The talented squad still ended with a 13-2 overall record, outscoring their opponents by a 476 to 239 point margin.
