Notre Dame Commit Davion Dixon Eyeing Massive Junior Season After Transfer

In this story:
Thinking back to the Blue-Gold Game this year, there was a lot of optimism that Notre Dame was going to leave with several commits, and they did just that. The first commitment of the weekend, however, was a bit of a surprise. Even before the game started, the Irish program had received a pledge from 2025 Miami (Fla.) Palmetto defensive tackle Davion Dixon.
That weekend sealed the deal for Dixon, who was high on the Irish coming in. Since making his pledge, the Florida star has done his best to enjoy the summer and prepare for the season. It’s impossible not to admire how quickly Notre Dame closed on Dixon.
"My relationship with Coach (Al) Washington is getting stronger and like we can trust each other,” Dixon explained. "Everything feels natural. I’m also learning how I can fit in fully and how I could help the team.
"They sold us on the school, not the football team so that stood out,” he added. "I already know this is the biggest brand in college football, I want to know how they'll support me as a student. There's a clear path for me to develop as a student and as a man.”
Dixon was joined in the 2025 class by Oklahoma tight end Nate Roberts, who made his commitment a few weeks ago. The two are still getting acclimated but are beginning to build a strong bond as well.
"Our class is still small,” said Dixon. "There's only been a couple commits right now but we’re building a friendship and getting to know each other.”
Fall camp is set to begin in a couple of weeks. Dixon has been taking this time to enjoy himself, and prepare for a big junior season.
"I was able to visit family on my dad’s side, and go to the NFL Hall of Fame,” he explained. "I also got a chance to watch a lot of NASCAR, as well as hang out with my friends for the 4th of July. I also attended a camp and worked out with my new teammates at Palmetto. It’s been a great experience this off-season to try a bunch of new things.”
In a short amount of time, it’s going to be all football once again for Dixon. If you thought he had a great sophomore year, just wait for 2023 to begin. Dixon, who started at Belen Jesuit, made the transfer to Palmetto this off-season. He is ready to be tested.
"Some goals I have are to keep getting better and faster coming off the line,” Dixon stated. "I’m working on using my hands more. I’d also like to help my team get to a championship game. I also want to be one of the best defensive tackles in the area and hopefully get All-Dade County.”
Not often talked about enough, Dixon is a talented interior defensive lineman who brings a lot of size to the table. His junior season should be a glimpse into just how good Dixon can be.
Dixon was an absolute menace as a sophomore. He finished second on the team with 70 total tackles, while also recording 33 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Dixon also posted 24 quarterback hurries, broke up five passes, forced a fumble, recovered another and blocked a kick.
Despite just finishing his sophomore year, Dixon continues to hear from some of the top programs in college football. The 6-2, 305-pound defender picked the Irish over offers from Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Louisville, West Virginia, and Syracuse among others.
Rivals currently has Dixon rated as a four-star recruit. They have him slotted as the No. 213 overall player and No. 10 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. Dixon is also rated as the No. 30 player in the state of Florida, a state that Notre Dame has had its troubles in the past.
