Dynamic Pass Catcher Daylan McCutcheon Finalizing Return Trip To Notre Dame

In this story:
With Mike Brown taking over as the Notre Dame wide receivers coach, the 2025 receiver board is bound to have a bit of a makeover. One player the staff was very high on prior was Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy pass catcher Daylan McCutcheon, who has visited South Bend twice, including for the USC game this season.
The 6-0, 175-pound pass catcher is coming off of a dynamic junior campaign, which was a big reason why Lovejoy ended with a 12-2 overall record. In games, McCutcheon hauled in 92 receptions for 1,423 yards and 19 touchdowns. Now sitting as one of the more heralded pass catchers in the class, Notre Dame is hoping to continue their momentum with the Texas star.
McCutcheon has already finalized a trip back to South Bend in the new year.
"Recruiting has been going good overall,” McCutcheon told Irish Breakdown. "I plan on visiting Notre Dame on January 20th and other schools during spring ball. It’s going to be a busy offseason.”
So far McCutcheon hasn’t had a ton of contact with Brown outside of recruiting him while still with Wisconsin. That relationship should grow over the next several weeks leading up to that visit. Luckily the Irish staff has already put in a lot of leg work previously.
"I haven’t really talked to Coach Brown since he’s been there but I have mainly been talking to Coach (Marcus) Freeman,” McCutcheon said. "He has been a great contact for me and my family. The staff always shows me love.”
Overall, Notre Dame has positioned themselves well early on. The next few months are going to be a big indicator for whether they can close on the dynamic pass catcher. The timeline has remained consistent, visits this offseason will be key.
"I want to try and commit this summer after my official visits,” he said. "That’s the plan right now.
"I don’t really have a top schools list finalized yet but Notre Dame is definitely one of my top schools,” McCutcheon added. "They’re a great school, good people and program.”
If Notre Dame does eventually land McCutcheon, it would be another massive get from the Lone Star State. McCutcheon is already considered one of the top wide receivers in the 2025 recruiting class. According to both On3 and Rivals, he is a top 100 overall player nationally, sitting at No. 94 and No. 70 respectively. Every major recruiting platform has him pegged as a four-star recruit and a consensus top 200 overall player.
It should be no surprise that McCutcheon is being courted by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his notable offers include the Irish, Ohio State, Florida State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Penn State, Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Utah, Baylor, West Virginia, Purdue, Cal, Stanford and Kansas among others.
