Elite 2025 Defender Anthony Sacca Sets Notre Dame Return

Despite some missteps in linebacker recruiting during the 2024 recruiting class, Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact early on for several top targets on the board in the 2025 class. One of the more talented players on the board is Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s standout Anthony Sacca, who visits this off-season for the Blue-Gold Game.

Sacca has informed Irish Breakdown that he will be returning to South Bend on September 23rd for the team’s matchup against Ohio State. Getting the Pennsylvania star back on campus is a big step for the staff, who has no doubt prioritized Sacca so far.

"Seeing a game day is going to be a lot of fun,” Sacca said. “I’m pumped to get back up there."

Sacca is considered as a four-star recruit by On3, ESPN and Rivals, with Rivals ranking him as the nation's No. 75 overall player, No. 9 linebacker and No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania.

The 6-3, 225-pound defender currently holds an impressive offer list, rivaling any recruit in the class. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers include the Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Florida State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Rutgers among others.

The Pennsylvania standout is coming off of a standout sophomore campaign for St. Joseph’s Prep, who finished 12-1 with a state championship. Despite boasting an impressive combination of size and length, Sacca played on the back end at safety for the team. He ended the year with 49 total tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and another fumble recovery.

Al Golden and his father Tony Sacca were teammates at Penn State from 1988-91, with Golden playing tight end and Sacca playing quarterback. That was definitely a foot in the door, but the full scope of the Irish program has kept it open.
