Elite Defender Anthony Jones "Very Excited" For Notre Dame Offer
The Pot of Gold offer event isn’t just about extending the recruiting board with new offers. There are several players, including 2026 Mobile (Al.) St. Paul’s Episcopal elite defender Anthony Jones who was re-offered by Notre Dame on Sunday.
When you are talking about the elite players in the 2026 recruiting class, Jones is a player who should always be mentioned. Notre Dame has been pushing hard for him, especially recently, which shows just how talented he is despite being a sophomore.
They are making a great early impression on the Alabama star.
“Notre Dame is a school where you can get a good education and football experience,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. “They provide it all. I was very excited to get the Pot of Gold offer because of how the staff treats me and how we are building relationships.
“I have been developing relationships with the defensive staff lately at Notre Dame,” he continued. “I usually hop on a call with them on Wednesdays so it's been cool.”
There is no questioning that it is going to be a dogfight for Jones, who is being pursued by some of the top programs in college football. As it currently stands, there is no assumed leader. Jones is giving every program a fair shake.
“The recruitment has been good overall,” Jones said. “I have been building relationships with the different coaches.”
Heading into the Pot of Gold, Jones wasn’t overly familiar with the event. He is just happy to be included in something that a very few percentage of players get the chance to.
“It’s definitely a cool experience,” Jones explained. “I’m not really familiar with it so it's cool to be able to have my name in it.”
Jones is already considered a potentially elite recruit in the 2026 recruiting class. He is currently rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, On3 and Rivals. The former is especially high on Jones, sitting as the No. 6 overall player and No. 1 linebacker in the class.
The 6-4, 215-pound defender already boasts an insane offer list. Some of the top programs who have offered Jones so far include the Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Miami, Florida State, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Louisville, Colorado, Georgia Tech, UCF, Houston, Stanford, Duke and Vanderbilt among others,
