Notre Dame Looking To Get Back On Track Recruiting Georgia

The Notre Dame staff is attempting to attract some big time talent in the state of Georgia for the 2024 recruiting class

Notre Dame has upped its success in Georgia over the last decade, and after a down year in the 2023 cycle, the Fighting Irish are looking to get back into the Peach State with the 2024 class.

AREA STRENGTH

When people talk about the elite producers of football players, the states they usually highlight are Texas, Florida and California in a variety of orders. If you look at the talent that the state of Georgia has been producing over the years, it becomes apparent that they need to be included in that conversation.

The 2024 Georgia class is an embarrassment of riches across basically every position. Defensively, the safety position is one that really sticks out. The same can be said for linebacker and interior defensive lineman, bringing a high volume of impact defenders.

On offense, it doesn’t look like the deepest offensive line group in the Peach State but there is a countless number of talented pass catchers and skill position players throughout. The skill of this 2024 group is bananas.

TARGETING ELITE PLAYERS

Notre Dame is not going to shy away from acquiring elite talent under Coach (Marcus) Freeman. Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview athlete Mike Matthews fits that billing, who has a claim as arguably the top athlete in the 2024 recruiting class.

There is no question that Notre Dame is a long shot but they are consistently mentioned by Matthews. The Georgia native has been on record that he would like a chance at wide receiver and the Irish staff would offer that to him.

A more recent offer from Notre Dame was Hiram (Ga.) High School tight end Walter Matthews, who was offered back on December 22nd. Matthews quickly made the trip to South Bend for junior day, illustrated his immediate interest.

The 6-7, 250-pound star tight end is one of the more physically impressive players in his class regardless of position. Notre Dame has full intentions of bringing in a second tight end to pair with Jack Larsen and Matthews is high on that list of candidates.

Jefferson (Ga.) High School linebacker Sammy Brown is another player who has been on the Notre Dame board for some time now. Brown is one of the better athletes in high school, doubling as a standout track and field sprinter for Jefferson.

The 6-2, 215-pound linebacker has made the visit to Notre Dame in the past but there is just not a ton of traction currently. He’s another player that the program plans to recruit until the end. The talent and upside is worth that effort.

Notre Dame is also still recruiting a couple of teammates in Buford (Ga.) High School defensive lineman Eddrick Houston and safety KJ Bolden. The staff will continue to do their due diligence but both players are a long shot. There just isn’t much traction with either player currently.

UNDERRATED BUT NOT FOR LONG

While he might not be rated as an elite player yet, Swainsboro (Ga.) High School athlete Demello Jones will be in the end. The 6-1, 175-pound defender is being recruited by various schools as a safety, cornerback, wide receiver and some on both sides of the football currently.

Notre Dame of course likes him at safety and for good reason. He is the nephew of former Irish standout Deke Cooper and brings an outstanding all-around athletic profile to the table. Jones is planning a visit to campus over the next few months.

Another talented defender who is planning a visit to South Bend is Warner Robins (Ga.) Northside safety Ricardo Jones, who is scheduling all his travels for when basketball season is over. There is clear intrigue about the Irish program and visit will be a huge indicator for how high the interest really is.

At 6-3 and 190 pounds, Jones has some absurd range on the back end. The upside for the Georgia standout is tremendous and he will really blow up physically once he focuses solely on football.

Notre Dame has also recently offered Carrollton (Ga.) High School star tight end Caleb Odom, who is raw but one of the more physically gifted players at his position in the 2024 recruiting class. With just being offered recently, it’s too early to tell how much traction there will be, if any.
