Playing in the shadows of 2023 five-star safety Caleb Downs, 2024 Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek defensive end Cole Mullins has been gaining a ton of traction on the recruiting trail recently. Notre Dame is among one of the main teams of interest, extending an offer to the talented defender a couple of weeks ago.

With so many programs showing interest and extending offers, Mullins has quickly gotten to know a flurry of coaches from several different programs. With his recent offer from the Irish, the offer quickly made an impression on him.

“I was extremely pumped up when Coach (Al) Washington offered me because I know how elite their program is,” Mullins said. “From football to education, Notre Dame really is the best of both worlds. It really caught me by surprise because I didn’t have much contact with them before he called me.

“My recruitment has been really picking up lately,” added Mullins. “It’s been especially busier since the Notre Dame offer.”

Notre Dame has already separated themselves as one of the top schools for Mullins early on in the process. Irish fans should also expect for the Georgia standout to make the trip up to campus this spring.

“The schools that have been recruiting me the hardest so far have probably been Wake Forest, Duke, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Kentucky so far,” he said. “They seem to all be excited about what I could potentially bring.

“I have never been up to South Bend yet,” Mullins continued. “I have a date planned for April 19 to get up and see spring practice. We’re excited.”

Mill Creek is already preparing to defend their state championship from last season. Mullins is laser focused to achieving that goal and wants to put the recruiting madness behind him before his final season begins.

“I definitely want to commit before the start of my senior season,” he said. “I’m grateful for all the attention and opportunities but really want to focus on my senior year.”

Mullins was a vital member of the 14-1 State Championship Mill Creek squad. From his defensive end and linebacker position, Mullins was a playmaker for the team. He finished with 58 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six sacks on the season. Mullins also had six more quarterback hurries and broke up two passes.

On offense, he was seldom used but he did haul in two receptions for seven yards and a touchdown in limited action.

The 6-4, 240-pound defender has been receiving a lot of interest over the last couple of months. He has pulled in a bevy of offers, including the Irish, USC, Stanford, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Duke, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, and Kansas among others.
