Notre Dame Gets One Final Chance To Impress Must-Get Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

In this story:
The last few weeks have gone a long way towards gaining clarity for the 2024 Notre Dame linebacker class. The Irish staff gained commitments from Nebraska standout Teddy Rezac and Virginia native Bodie Kahoun, leaving just one linebacker spot left potentially.
There’s no question who Notre Dame would like to fill it. For what seems like forever, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa has been a major priority and the top linebacker on the board for Notre Dame. With decision time coming soon, Viliamu-Asa is set to visit campus officially June 16-19.
This will be the first visit that the California star will bring his family. Them seeing everything that Notre Dame has to offer will be a big chance to really sell the fit.
"The thing I’m looking forward to most is getting my family out to see it for themselves,” Viliamu-Asa told Irish Breakdown. "I want them to see and feel what I’ve experienced through visiting so they can understand the culture and program as a whole.”
Coming into the visit, Notre Dame sits near the top of Viliamu-Asa’s top schools list. They are joined by Ohio State and USC as the finalists for the St. John Bosco star. Relationships have been a big reason why Viliamu-Asa is so high on the Irish. There is no question that he could see himself in the Blue and Gold.
"My relationship has continued to strengthen with Notre Dame,” Viliamu-Asa explained. "We communicate on a consistent basis and their message has been that I am a priority in this defensive class.
"I think I fit in as a student athlete within the culture established at Notre Dame,” he continued. "They are a very focused, purpose driven environment that pushes kids to succeed just as much in the classroom as on the field. That is something that is definitely appealing to me in a school.”
As of right now, the plan is for Viliamu-Asa to take his three official visits and then make a decision shortly afterward. He maintains that there isn’t much separation. The month of June will help to separate things.
"I don’t have an update on the exact date I want to make a commitment,” he said. "All three schools are really leveled for me at this point. Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC have all done a tremendous job with me.”
From every vantage point, Viliamu-Asa seems like the perfect Notre Dame fit. The Irish staff has positioned themselves well but really need to move the needle during the visit and close on the California star.
The California native put together a dynamic junior campaign for the 13-1 St. John Bosco team. He finished the season with 111 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks despite missing one game. Viliamu-Asa also recorded an interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup.
Viliamu-Asa is considered a four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks highest on the Rivals ranking, currently sitting as the No. 60 overall player and No. 3 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class. 247Sports sees the California star similarly, pegging him as the No. 69 overall player and No. 6 linebacker in the class.
