Class Impact: Notre Dame Lands Talented Lineman Owen Strebig

Notre Dame has added another very talented player to its 2025 class with Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial offensive tackle Owen Strebig committing to the Fighting Irish. It's a big commitment for Notre Dame, who beat out Florida State, USC, Miami (Fla.) and Wisconsin to land this talented blocker.

Let's take a look at what the commitment of Strebig means for the Notre Dame 2025 class, how he fits into the Irish offense and what his game is all about.

NOTRE DAME CLASS IMPACT

Strebig is the 14th player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2025 class, he's the sixth offensive player and the second offensive lineman to commit to the Irish.

After landing four players in the 2022 class, five in the 2023 class and four more in the 2024 class the Irish aren't in desperate need of numbers in the 2025. Notre Dame is now looking for more high upside/high level talent, and also looking to add more talented tackle bodies to the roster.

Landing Strebig and adding him to a class that already had Will Black, Notre Dame now has a second offensive line commit in a class that could stop at three and meet its needs. So from a pure numbers standpoint the Irish are now very close to being full in the 2025 offensive line class.

The more important impact from Strebig is that he meets the impact talent threshold and he projects as a pure offensive tackle, which are more important needs than just the three overall linemen. Strebig has a very high ceiling and he's not even close to his full potential. With Charles Jagusah signing in the 2023 class, and both Guerby Lambert and Styles Prescod getting on board in the 2024 class, the Irish are now much closer to getting the tackle depth chart fully restocked now that Strebig and Black have followed them up.

NOTRE DAME FIT - FILM ANALYSIS

Notre Dame wanted some pure tackles in the 2025 class and Strebig is certainly that. Yes, his body fits the tackle position at 6-8 and 295 pounds, but more importantly his game fits it well. Strebig is very long, he's an easy mover and he looks comfortable in space, all traits you want in an offensive tackle, especially a left tackle. He has the ability to block like a left tackle and run block like a dominant right tackle, and he's just scratching the surface of his potential.

Strebig certainly fits the mold of an edge player. As I mentioned already he's not only tall, but he's quite long from an arm length and wingspan standpoint. You won't have to question his ability to use his length to win on the edge and get to speed rushers, and as he learns to better use his length it will become one of his best weapons.

The Wisconsin native is already listed at 295 pounds, but for lack of a better way of putting this, he's not really fat. Strebig is just big, and he still has plenty of room to actually reshape his body and add really good weight. He is still young and has a young body, so I could see Strebig eventually being a good-looking 320+ pounds at the next level. I won't be at all surprised if he ends up as a 6-8, 325-pound tackle that can move.

Athletically is where Strebig presents some intriguing skills. He appears to still be growing into his massive frame a bit, and at times that can lead to some awkward moments. He's also a young player from a development standpoint, and even though he plays in a strong high school program, his game still needs a lot of work. As he stops growing and starts fill out, and continues to enhance his overall technique, his game should explode.

Strebig bends well for such a tall and young player, but that's the one area where I want to see him continue to work. He shows the ability to bend his knees well, but he'll lunge at times in the run game. When he drives his hips through blocks he can dominate people, and as he does that more and more he'll become an even more dominant run defender. His ease in space, nimble athleticism and length all project well for him to thrive as a space player at the next level.
