Notre Dame Is "The Whole Package" For Linebacker Bodie Kahoun

The week got off to a fast start this morning when Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry linebacker Bodie Kahoun committed to Notre Dame. The Virginia native had plans to make a series of official visits in June, including stops in South Bend, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, but ultimately there was nothing else he needed to see.

This decision had been on Kahoun’s mind heavily over the last couple of weeks. Ultimately the timing was just right for Kahoun, who gravitated more and more towards everything that Notre Dame could provide.

"As a family we were focused on finding the best scenario of academics and athletics and the development potential for the next level,” Kahoun told Irish Breakdown. "We met so many great coaches and staff along the way. As we narrowed down the visit timeline things kept getting clearer and it just felt right to make the decision."

There wasn't just one thing that made Notre Dame the clear pick for Kahoun and his family.

"It’s the whole package,” Kahoun said. "Notre Dame brings world class academics and football. Coach (Marcus) Freeman, (Al) Golden, and (Max) Bullough were in early and were consistent on how I was a fit and could impact the roster. We are also working through the potential of lacrosse being an option.”

Those coaches have been a key fixture in this recruitment. The relationships are a big part of what sold the fit to Kahoun and his family. There was never a question whether he was a priority for Notre Dame.

"From the very start, Coach Freeman, Coach Golden, Coach Bullough and Chad Bowden have done a good job of developing a personal relationship with me and my family,” he said. "This was always a very important part of the process for me, as it builds trust and comfort.

"Ultimately, their message is that I am a good fit for them as a student athlete and their locker room and can make an impact,” Kahoun added. "It’s going to be a lot of hard work. I chose hard!”

The 6-3, 220-pound standout linebacker has continued to see his offer list expand over the last few months. Some of the notable programs that have offered so far include the Irish, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana among others.

The dual-sport star is currently one of the top athletes on the 5-A level in Virginia. Despite his obvious connection to the state of Virginia, Kahoun actually did grow up in Zionsville, Indiana. He has his Midwest roots and is clearly very aware of the brand that Notre Dame boasts.

Kahoun is also a standout lacrosse player for Patrick Henry. The star midfielder had been committed to Ohio State for lacrosse since September of 2022. His ability to potentially play football, or both sports, in college has changed his outlook to explore different options on the next level. That journey has led him to this commitment with the Irish.
