Over this past weekend, Notre Dame was a destination for a number of talented 2024 recruits for official visits, including several Fighting Irish commits. Among them was Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller cornerback Karson Hobbs, who has been committed to the Irish program since November.

This official visit for Hobbs was an outstanding experience. Of course, it’s for him and his family that made the trip. It was also important for the Ohio star to be around the other committed and uncommitted visitors on campus. His impact can not be undersold.

OFFICIAL VISIT EXPERIENCE

Hobbs went in depth on his experience over the weekend. The Notre Dame staff wanted to make him and his family feel special; they did just that.

"It was amazing,” Hobbs told Irish Breakdown. "So you start off by picking you up. They actually had someone picking us all up in an Escalade. They came to our house, opened all the doors up, put all of our bags in the car and took us down to the airport.

"Then when you get there, they give you another car service and another Escalade,” he continued. "Then they take you to the hotel. When you arrive at the hotel, we see Chad (Bowden) and all the recruiting staff.”

From there, the visit got even better. It started with Hobbs’ hotel room, which was decked out with everything you can imagine.

"Everyone helps us get checked in and you see that the room is all decorated,” Hobbs explained. "There was so much candy, all your favorite snacks, notes from everybody and from the coaches.

"This time they even had a puzzle with the Irish logo and your face on it from the photo shoot,” Hobbs added. "It was sweet, covered in gold, chocolate bars, it was everything. The hotel part was everything that you could imagine and that night, we had dinner downstairs of the hotel from Notre Dame catering.”

Then came the bonding time. Hobbs and the rest of the recruits on campus has plenty of time to hang out, get to know each other better and bond.

"The next two or three days, we got to hang out with the players, went bowling, and went golfing at the Warren Golf Club,” he said. "We did everything. It was amazing.

"I’m blessed and grateful,” he stated. "When they say they want to make you feel at home and feel like a king, they did all of that. They went royalty on us.”

BONDING AND ROLE AS A RECRUITER

There is little question that the talented cornerback and his family enjoyed their recent stay in South Bend. While that official visit is for Hobbs to enjoy, he also had another role as a recruiter this weekend.

"My job was to explain why not us,” Hobbs explained. "What can another school offer you that we can’t? We can offer everything you need from football and academics. I just wanted to make the guys feel like they’re home.”

The comfort started on the first day with a long night of Madden. According to Hobbs, that got the weekend started off right.

"That was like the first day,” he explained. "That really kind of brought us all together. We were all on the sticks. Teddy Rezac was playing, everyone was. We were up to about two or three in the morning. We were up late playing Madden.

"It’s one of those experiences that you don’t know how important it was until you leave,” Hobbs continued. "It really brought us that much closer.”

Then the commits had a chance to enjoy some golf together. While the Ohio native may not be the best golfer of all time, there was one uncommitted target who really stood out.

"Carter Nelson,” Hobbs said. "He came up like this, shot it out and it was out there. I’m alright. My dad loves golf so he’s pretty good. I’m pretty mid to be honest. Carter can golf for real.”

By all accounts, and according to Hobbs, Notre Dame made a big move for Nelson this weekend. He seemed to fit in really well.

“He was acting like he was one of us, like he was a commit,” Hobbs said. “He fits in easy.”

Notre Dame also seemed to make a nice move with Alabama linebacker Bradley Shaw. He also received rave reviews from Hobbs, although it sounds like his Madden game could use some work.

"He was really cool too,” said Hobbs. “He’s humble and cool. I know he wanted to observe everything and check it all out.”

The last recruit Hobbs mentioned was Texas safety Oliver Miles, who the staff has been high on for some time now. It sounds like Miles' approach may be a been a little different, which isn’t a bad thing.

“Oliver was with us a lot,” Hobbs stated. "He’s quiet, doesn’t really speak unless spoken to. He’s a really nice kid, cool, doesn’t do anything wrong, just quieter. There’s nothing wrong with that. Like I always say, be you.”

It’s hard not to be impressed with what Notre Dame was able to accomplish this weekend from a recruiting perspective. Hobbs’ experience was a perfect example of that.
