Notre Dame need to have a big year at safety in the 2024 class, and one of the top prospects on the board - Baltimore (Md.) Gilman standout Dejuan Lane - has included the Fighting Irish in his list of five final schools.

Notre Dame made the list along with Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Maryland

Notre Dame hosted Lane for a visit the week prior to the Blue-Gold Game, and that visit put the Irish in the mix. Lane is a 6-3, 190-pound two-way player that shines as a deep safety and wide receiver.

The Irish struck out at safety in the 2021 class and signed just two a year ago, which leaves the Irish in need of numbers and impact talent in the 2024 class. The lack of depth on the roster means the 2024 safeties the Irish land could have a chance to come in and play very early on.

Lane's combination of size, strength and range are ideal for that kind of player. His long speed jumps off on film and he covers a lot of ground on the back end of the defense. He has the tools that could allow him to come in and play early, and Lane is without question the kind of impact talent Notre Dame needs at safety in the 2024 class.

The key now will be trying to close, but the battle will be tough with Georgia, Michigan and Penn State being top competitors along with in-state Maryland.

Lane ranks as the nation's No. 215 overall player according to 247Sports, and he's a Top 250 recruit according to ESPN and Rivals. The Gilman standout graded out as a Top 100 caliber recruit on the Irish Breakdown board.

Lane earned offers from the Irish, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Wake Forest, Boston College, Syracuse and Rutgers.
