Notre Dame Makes Top Seven For 2024 Edge Anelu Lafaele

It is an incredibly important cycle for the defensive line in the 2024 recruiting class under Al Washington. They are tasked with finding impact defenders up and down the line of scrimmage to continue strengthening a unit that must take a step up from their 2022 results. On Wednesday, the staff received some good news when Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis standout defensive end Anelu Lafaele included Notre Dame among his top seven schools list.

Lafaele’s list included the Fighting Irish, Utah, Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon State, Arizona State and Hawaii.

Lafaele is considered a four-star recruit by 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 17 edge in the class on their ranking, as well as the No. 2 player in the state of Hawaii.

The 6-3, 230-pound standout defender has an offer list that continues to expand. Some of the other notable offers include Oklahoma, Tennessee, Nebraska, Utah, Washington State, Oregon State, Colorado, Arizona State, Cal, Arizona and Vanderbilt among others.

Notre Dame football hasn’t frequented Hawaii a ton from a recruiting perspective, but when they have, they have had tremendous success doing so. Of course the first name that comes to mind for Irish fans will be former standout linebacker Manti Te’o, who left the program as one of the most decorated players in its storied history.

The program has also had several other wins in the state, including current Notre Dame linebacker Marist Liufau, defensive end Jordan Botelho and linebacker Kahanu Kia, who is currently serving on a LDS mission. Botelho played at the same high school as Lafaele. Former Irish wide receiver Robby Toma, as well as defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa and Kona Schwenke also came from the islands.
