Notre Dame Offer Was A "Great Feeling" For In-State Pass Rusher Damien Shanklin

Talented 2025 defensive end Damien Shanklin goes in depth on recent Notre Dame offer

On Tuesday, the 2025 defensive line board for Notre Dame added an interesting name. The Irish staff extended an offer to Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central pass rusher Damien Shanklin, one of the more interesting defensive ends in the class overall.

Being an in-state player, Shanklin understands the magnitude of this offer. The talented pass rusher went in depth on this recent offer, which was a big one.

“It was great getting the offer knowing Sheldon Day went there,” Shanklin told Irish Breakdown. "It was just a great feeling. I heard the news before going to practice and while I was talking to Coach (Al) Washington on the phone.

“We hadn’t spoken really at all before this,” Shanklin continued. “He just sounded like a great coach and person to build that bond with. I’m excited to get to know him.”

Everything that Notre Dame brings to the table is something that Shanklin really values. The full pitch is very, very enticing.

“To know that they’re very big on academics is great because grades will always be number one for me,” said Shanklin. “Other than that it’s great that I got a scholarship offer from Notre Dame and also being from Indiana it’s great to get a big offer from a school that is close by.”

Overall, Shanklin is trying to find home. He wants a spot that fits perfectly.

“For me, I’m trying to find a place that feels like home,” he said. “I just want to feel comfortable and be able to thrive in an environment.”

Shanklin is beginning to collect several impressive offers. Some of the top programs who have extended offers thus far include the Fighting Irish, USC, Iowa, Missouri, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Purdue, West Virginia, Indiana and Rutgers among others.

The 6-4, 230-pound defensive end is considered a four-star recruit on the On3 Industry ranking. On that ranking, Shanklin currently sits as the No. 292 overall player and No. 22 EDGE in the 2025 recruiting class. He is also the No. 3 player in the state of Indiana.

As a sophomore, Shanklin assumed a substantial role for Warren Central. The in-state standout collected 32 total tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks.
