Notre Dame Offers Standout 2024 Maryland Cornerback Ify Obidegwu

Notre Dame has gotten off to a fast start at the cornerback position in the 2024 recruiting, already receiving commitments from standouts Karson Hobbs and Leonard Moore. The Irish staff would like to potentially add a third cornerback to the group ideally.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame extended an offer to 2024 Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy cornerback Ify Obidegwu, who is one of the more talented cover men in the 2024 group .

Obidegwu is considered as a near consensus recruit by every major recruiting platform. He rates highest on Rivals, who currently has him pegged as the No. 87 overall player and No. 7 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class.

The Maryland standout has been receiving interest from some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his notable offers so far include the Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Maryland, South Carolina, NC State, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Boston College, Indiana, and Kansas among others.

Comeback Coach Mike Mickens has quickly rebuilt the cornerback room for the Irish, infusing a high level of talent to the squad. In the 2022 and 2023 cycles, the program was able to land four commitments from Freshman All-American Benjamin Morrison, Jaden Mickey, Christian Gray and Micah Bell.

The 2024 class could have even more momentum to continue to bolster that group. Obidegwu will be an interesting name to keep a close eye on. The 6-0, 190-pound defensive back brings versatility and a lot of possibilities to the table.
