From the beginning, there was a natural affinity for the Notre Dame football program from 2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller cornerback Karson Hobbs. Even while he was committed to South Carolina, there was still a deep admiration for the Irish.

They were always his dream school.

When it comes down to making the switch, and cementing the bond, it has to go deeper than just fandom. It wasn’t the dawn of the blue and gold that cemented it. It wasn’t any miscellaneous memories from his childhood. No, it was the relationships that really closed the deal for Hobbs.

That relationship started with the man who will be working with him directly in the cornerback room, Coach Mike Mickens.

"I realized with Coach Mickens that he isn’t a guy who just cares about football,” Hobbs said. "He cares about me. I always wanted to go play for somebody that I could consider family.

"For me, I really can do that,” Hobbs continued. "I have a relationship with all the coaches on the defensive staff at Notre Dame. They’re all family and all great people. I’m excited to get to play for them. Coach Mickens, his energy. It was more than just my recruitment. He’s invested in my life.”

Those relationships have evolved since committing to the program back in November following the team’s 35-14 victory over Clemson. Hobbs is now fully entrenched as a member of the 2024 class and has developed deep bonds with the other commits in the class. They are all like minded people who understand the appeal for the Irish program extends way past what happens on Saturdays.

"We didn’t commit to Notre Dame for just football,” he said. "We committed to Notre Dame for the program, and the academics. We understand that it is more of a 40 year decision than a four year decision. I feel like it is home whenever we are all down there.”

Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class is currently considered as the No. 2 overall class in the country according to every major recruiting platform. Aside from the obvious talent, the commits in the class are also committed to being a part of the reason why Notre Dame gets back on top.

Notre Dame presented all the resources they needed, especially Hobbs. From football, academics and family, the program really presents the best of all worlds.

"You want to play with the best, “ said Hobbs. "We have the best committed. I’m trying to reach out to the highest recruits in the country and ask them why not. If you come to Notre Dame, you'll truly see the family. We have something special that no other school has.

"It’s not just football life,” he continued. "It’s the academic part that will set you up beyond football. The football is just a blessing to be a part of it at Notre Dame. We have both and 99 percent of colleges don’t have it at that level.”

Now it moves to the recruiting side of things for Hobbs. He wants to help put together the best class in the country and grow even more relationships. According to Hobbs, it’s a very easy pitch to sell.

"Why not come to Notre Dame?” he explained. "You want to go to Alabama or Georgia, for what? They don't have more than we have. Notre Dame is a top school in the country. I don’t think guys are choosing it just for football. They are coming to be a part of a family and something truly special.”
