When you talk about productive defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class, there may not be a more impressive stat line than what Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano, who is now officially signed with the Fighting Irish.

Sevillano racked up 101 tackles, 65 tackles for loss and 14 sacks as a senior, but according to Clearwater Academy assistant coach Dan Meyer, the production is a byproduct of a young man with big time talent, but also a big time work ethic.

That motor and effort is what set him a part.

"He may be the most tireless worker that I've ever been around,” Meyer told Irish Breakdown. "This is a player who came in and got worked a little bit but understood what the process looked like and that instant gratification isn't always what you're going to achieve. You’re talking about a player who after practice is running the hoops or working against the pop-up or doing his own conditioning after practice because he understands you can always do more.

"For him, everything is about achieving greatness,” Meyer continued. "He puts the work in, whether it's training, whether it's conditioning, whether it's field work on his own, on top of everything we do as a team. It’s because he's so singularly focused on what's next and what it's going to take to be successful.”

As a junior, there were some naysayers about Sevillano who was portrayed as beating up on inferior competition. As a senior, the competition was on a higher level. That didn’t slow down Sevillano, who actually put together a better all around season.

"We played a schedule that had national competitors on it and you have a 315 pound defensive tackle making tackles outside the hashes on bubble screens,” Meyer explained. "You talk a lot about talent in this whole recruiting business, but with him, it's talent plus effort. I think that's something that can't be underspoken. A huge part of what he does is nonstop effort, nonstop hustle and he's a two-time captain and really the heartbeat of our team.”

Notre Dame fans are bound to love Sevillano, who brings a big personality. In fact, Coach Meyer see some parallels to a former Irish favorite.

"He's a fiery competitor, but he's just a big, goofy personality,” he said. "I grew up in the Midwest. I grew up a huge Notre Dame fan so he and I have had conversations about Notre Dame players of the past and I was like bud, you're Irish Chocolate all over again. He's Louis Nix. He's a big, lovable, tenacious teddy bear but he’s somebody that is going to find happiness in every situation, but when it's time to get to work, he's going to get to work. He’s an ultimate competitor.

"The guys are going to love being around him,” Meyer added. "It’s always funny with defensive linemen. His shorts are too short and they're way too tight. Like, buddy, you don't have the legs for those shorts but he's an unbelievable kid and truly going to be missed.”

Notre Dame is in need of more impact size on the interior. Sevillano can serve that role, and hopefully make a long term impact. The Canada native is going to work hard, make plays and smile while he’s doing it.
