In only a calendar year, Chansi Stuckey has completely changed the fortunes of the wide receiver room at Notre Dame. The staff is now aiming to put together another talented wide receiver group in the 2024 recruiting class.

Coach Stuckey went back to his roots with a recent offer to 2024 Warner Robins (Ga.) High School standout athlete Isiah Canion. Although Stuckey went to the neighboring high school at Northside, his name carries a lot of weight in Warner Robins.

That offer to Canion came during a visit to the Notre Dame campus this weekend. For the Georgia native, it was a moment that will stick with him forever.

“I was so excited to receive the offer,” Canion said. “When Coach Stuckey told me it was almost surreal. I was like “woahhh no way”. A Notre Dame offer is a big deal.

“Yesterday, after I arrived, it was my first time in Notre Dame or in the state of Indiana at all,” he continued. “This is the farthest north I have ever been. It went really well, all the people were nice and seemed cool.”

Things have been really starting to heat up Canion over the last few weeks. You shouldn’t expect that to slow down anytime soon.

“My recruitment has been good,” Canion explained. “I received my first offer from Indiana about two weeks ago and seven more since then including Georgia Tech, UAB, University of Pennsylvania, and Vanderbilt.

“I actually received the Georgia Tech offer Saturday night but had a pretty good long conversation with,” Canion added. “Coach (Josh) Crawford and liked what he was saying. UPenn has been in close contact as well, and Vanderbilt has reached out several times since offering me.”

From a projection perspective, Canion has the profile to potentially play several different positions. Obviously Notre Dame envisions him as a wide receiver due to his combination of length, ball skills and athleticism. No matter the position he’s being recruited at, Canion does have a clear criteria for things that are important for him when making a college decision.

“I look for a strong education because unfortunately football has a shelf life whether you go to the league or not,” Canion explained. “I like money so I want to make a lot of it. That’s not going to happen without a plan and a good degree from a great school. Not sure exactly when I’m going to commit but I plan to commit sometime before my senior year.”

Canion is a high upside athlete that will need time to grow. Coach Stuckey has a tremendous eye for talent and the talented pass catcher could be another under the radar player to keep a close eye on.

Canion does a little bit of everything for the Warner Robins Demons. He split his time between wide receiver and running back as a junior. As a quarterback, Canion threw for 584 yards and five touchdowns. He completed nearly 69 percent of his passes and only threw on interception.

As a pass receiver, Canion hauled in 26 receptions for 395 yards and six touchdowns. The Georgia native averages 15.2 yards per reception and also had another score on the ground.

He also made some plays on the defensive side of the football as a cornerback. In limited opportunities, Canion intercepted two passes, broke up another tackle and collected six total tackles.

The 6-3, 190-pound athlete is beginning to gain some traction from a recruiting perspective. The Irish, Indiana and Vanderbilt are a few of the schools so far that have extended offers with many more sure to come in the near future.
