Standout 2024 Pass Catcher Micah Gilbert Aware Of The Prestige That Notre Dame Brings

In this story:
The Notre Dame 2024 wide receiver board continues to get more and more impressive seemingly everyday. They continued on Monday when the staff extended an offer to Catholic (N.C.) Christian star pass catcher Micah Gilbert.
The offer was well received by the North Carolina native, who has begun to really blow up on the recruiting trail. He fully understands how much weight an offer from Notre Dame holds.
“When I was offered, my Initial thoughts were just pure excitement,” Gilbert told Irish Breakdown. “Notre Dame is a very prestigious school that picks and chooses who they offer very selectively so I was very honored.”
There has been a flurry of impressive offers that have come Gilbert’s way in recent weeks. It has been a busy time but one that he is incredibly thankful for.
“My recruitment has been very good up to this point,” Gilbert said. “I had 17 offers before today and Notre Dame makes it 18. It is starting to pick up as of today with just receiving Virginia right after. It’s been very busy.
“Michigan, Duke, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Florida, and Alabama are some of the schools that have offered or are recruiting me hard so far,” he continued. “It’s been great getting to know the coaches at each one of those schools.”
If Gilbert thinks he’s been busy recently, he hasn’t seen anything yet. The next several months will be loaded with school visits across the country to some premier programs. From the sounds of it, South Bend will be one of the destinations.
“I have not been on the Notre Dame campus yet but I am planning to visit within the next couple months,” he said. “We are planning most of the school visits for March and April during spring practices.”
The criteria that Gilbert has set for making a proper college decision does seem to line up with the values that Notre Dame can provide. Time will tell just how much that fit makes sense.
“I am looking for a good education, the ability to grow as a player, to play at the highest level and be able to play early on,” Gilbert explained. “I don’t have a real timeline right now. I’m just concerned with finding the best fit right now.”
Gilbert is considered a four-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals. He peaks as high as the No. 204 overall player and No. 37 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports.
That ranking also has him pegged as the No. 7 player in the state of North Carolina, a state that Notre Dame had an impact in the 2023 recruiting class with offensive lineman Sam Pendleton and Sullivan Absher.
Limited to seven games as a junior with a broken hand, Gilbert was still able to haul in 39 receptions for 486 yards and six touchdowns. Gilbert also posted eight total tackles and two pass breakups in limited opportunities on the defensive side of the football.
The 6-2, 200-pound pass catcher is putting together an impressive offer list so far. Some of the notable programs who have offered so far include the Irish, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, Wake Forest and Duke among others.
