Talented Safety Brauntae Johnson Sets Commitment Time

Arguably the best player in the state of Indiana - Fort Wayne North Side star athlete Brauntae Johnson - has finalized when he'll be making a college commitment. Johnson announced today he'll make his decision know on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00 AM eastern.

Johnson earned an offer from Notre Dame last summer when he put a dominant performance together at the Irish Invasion Camp. The 6-3, 170-pound two-way standout recently visited Notre Dame for an official visit, and the Irish came out of that visit with a commanding lead in his recruiting.

The Fort Wayne natively recently announced a list of his Top 10 schools, which included Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami (Fla.), Missouri, Colorado, Purdue, Louisville, Michigan State and Cincinnati.

As a junior, Johnson hauled in 69 passes for 1,081 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has caught 26 touchdown passes already in his career and enters his final high school season with 1,974 career receiving yards. Johnson also has 53 career tackles as a safety.

A consensus four-star recruit, Johnson is ranked as the nation's No. 56 overall player according to Rivals, and is also ranked as the No. 4 safety in the land.

Johnson earned scholarship offers from the schools mentioned in his top group as well as Wisconsin, Auburn, Washington, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa State and Kansas.

Notre Dame currently has a commitment from Arizona safety Kennedy Urlacher and Ohio safety Taebron Bennie-Powell, but Johnson would be the top safety in the class. Johnson has been a top target at the position for some time, and landing him would provide the position, and the class, which a much-needed boost.
