Notre Dame Wide Receiver Target Jerome Bettis Jr. Previews Return Visit

In this story:
When you think of some of the greatest Notre Dame players of all time, former Irish running back Jerome Bettis is usually pretty high on the list. In the 2025 class, Irish fans are likely to get some nostalgia as the staff continues to value Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy wide receiver Jerome Bettis Jr. highly.
The Irish legacy is set to make yet another return visit to Notre Dame this weekend for their matchup with USC. It’s a game that Bettis has been looking forward to for awhile.
“I’m really excited to be back in South Bend for what should be one of the best games this year,” Bettis told Irish Breakdown. “I’m looking forward to seeing how Notre Dame’s offense bounces back from last week and how the defense contains Caleb Williams.”
Since being offered during the Pot of Gold offer event on St. Patrick’s Day, Notre Dame has made Bettis feel wanted. Their pitch has remained the same through it all, with excitement toward the future continuing to grow.
“Everything with Notre Dame has been going great,” Bettis explained. “I talk to the coaching staff every week and so those relationships have gotten pretty strong by now.
“Their pitch has always been the same: 4 for 40,” he continued. “That’s a huge part of it and so that’s something I've internalized and thought a lot about. They have also done some new things this year on the offensive side of the ball and so it’s great to see what they can do when they have a high-level quarterback.”
Notre Dame has been the assumed leader for Bettis for some time now. That hasn’t changed. There is merely an urge to stay focused on the season over the next couple of months.
“All I’m really sure about is it’s probably gonna be after this season is over,” he said. “Right now I’m really focused on my team.”
The 6-2, 175-pound pass catcher has seen his offer list expand steadily. Bettis currently holds offers from the Irish, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, NC State, Duke, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Boston College and UCF among several others.
After playing for Westminster School this past season, Bettis made the move to Woodward Academy this off-season. So far through six games, Bettis has hauled in 19 receptions for 208 yards and three touchdowns.
Bettis has also played some as a safety for Woodward Academy. He has collected 18 total tackles and one tackle for loss so far.
